I don't get why this is a "Heckler Stopper". The routine has nothing to do with heckling. You ask a spectator to name a card and he does. You then insult him and expect him to laugh. I suppose if he doesn't laugh he's just a jerk, right?
If someone heckles you on a previous trick and then you say oh yeah well let me show you this...How do you know he will cooperate and name a card at all? |

But I am 100% sure a 14 year old will wet himself laughing when he performs it for his friends. But it's not a heckler stopper. The whole concept of hecklers is weird to me though. I think in 30 years I've been heckled once, by a teenager. Here's my heckler stopping advice: don't be sh*t. |

Would prefer a joke card- a gag- actually a good idea but an FU Card? Come on now. Actually though, because of this, it has sparked a few ideas where a much better card or deck other than FU would be quite entertaining.

Exactly..... What does that say about you as a performer? Gutter magician. No thanks. Not a good reputation to have.

Exactly, there’s a time and a place for everything. I’d never dream of doing this at a family restaurant or most gigs come to that, but for my mates round the pub, well they’d love it.

This actually belongs to Harrison Greenbaum. He's been doing it for 10 years.

It looks like this is taken off E's website now. Clicked the link to see what it was and it just gives me a page not found error. Anyone know why?

He stole Harrison's presentation and Asi's methodology. Thankfully, it looks like it has been pulled.

AN OPEN LETTER REGARDING THE F.U. DECK |

AN OPEN LETTER ON WHY WE AREN'T SELLING F.U. DECKS ANYMORE
Hey Everyone, Geraint from Ellusionist here. I wanted to inform you all that we are no longer selling the F.U. Deck that was released yesterday. I was sent some messages regarding a potential independent creation concern, but we at Ellusionist had already moved the product to 'out of stock' based on a phone call Harrison Greenbaum had with Brad last night on this. Here's the full story... Lloyd put together an age-old idea of a story Madison told him at the summit about a magician performing a mystery card with a porographic photo to shock a heckler... then top changing it for the rest of the audience. Harrison Greenbaum then reached out to say he'd been doing this effect for around a decade. It's just a case of independent creation, that's all. As an individual, I can honestly say I have personally never heard of Harrison Greenbaum until last night when he sent over the video in his email. We had no prior knowledge of Harrison's routine. It was a gag that Lloyd himself couldn't find the proper crediting on and that NO magician has brought up since May 19th 2016 when it was first posted to our Ellusionist audience. Here's a video of me performing it to Cardiff Magic Society that's been up since then: https://youtu.be/MespnbK6-c4?t=9m44s The deck was in development for a long time prior to us filming this but was eventually shelved until recently (when we printed it with Cartamundi) as USPCC wouldn't print something with pornographic words on it. The trailer was filmed at a magic convention. (Not one person brought up Harrison's ownership of it there either and from what we've now found out, it WASN'T published to the magic industry.) WHY THE CONTROVERSY THEN? It's often the case that first to market is the rule for original creations. If a routine is unpublished, it's clear that we could have no prior knowledge of its existence and in most cases the person that puts it out (in this instance Lloyd) would be known as the creator. After All, ideas are worthless without execution. However, Harrison is a very well respected performer who decided to keep this routine for his private performances. It wasn't just an idea to him, he had worked it for about a decade all across the world with some prominent members of the magic industry being aware of this piece in his show. After a very pleasant call with the creator (who's old performance footage was hilarious), we happily removed it from the market. Ellusionist as a company isn't in the business of copying effects from creators and is always happy to rectify any of these issues if they arise. We push the envelope, re-position the line the industry won't dare to cross and pride ourselves on keeping our integrity with every move we make. Money isn't important in a community as small as magic is. We all have to look out for each other. Us scrapping the decks now has made us a new friend in Harrison, who we'd love to welcome on to our platform in future with any advice he'd want to share as a performer. One door closes, another opens. I know personally that some of my effects (and others on the team) have been published by others and instead of accusing other magic companies of stealing them, I've just asked the company politely to take it down (which they always have.) Independent creation happens all of the time in this industry. We are all just an infinite number of monkeys with an infinite supply of playing cards and at certain points in history we're bound to create something someone else has. Mark Calabrese has had it happen to him. I've had it happen to me. Gianni Vox has had it happen to him. Harry Lorayne has had it happen to him. Lloyd has had the same. Madison and Jay Sankey had it with Angle Z... and so on. It's how you deal with that situation after that shows your character and intent, and we're happy to give credit on this one and respect the creator. As a company dealing with hundreds of artists effects, we always do research and we trust that artists have too, but it's hard to capture every fish in the net, especially (like in this instance) it was unpublished as a marketable effect. We're happy to make it right with the creator and learn from this as a community. Together we can raise standards and keep producing incredible magic. Thank you for your support. - Ellusionist P.s. We also have had people question it's similarity to Gypsy Queen by Asi Wind. In this case F.U. Deck's existence predates Gypsy Queen's release to the magic industry. We first published a performance of F.U. on our Youtube May 19th 2016. The actual deck was conceived long before that and used only by staff. Gypsy Queen wasn't released for almost another 7 months after our first showing (December 9th)... It is then, impossible for it to be inspired by this trick. However, we all stand on the shoulders of giants. After speaking to Harrison he agrees that his F.U. effect predates both Lloyd and Asi's effect but as good friends is happy with Gypsy Queen's place on the market (as his presentation is the F.U. reveal) |
