The February lectures, yes lectures, are ones not to be missed. Night one is a simulcast that is being shared with The Magic Circle as the The Society of American Magicians host a lecture with Jeff McBride. Then the next night, The Magic Circle will host the second simulcast as they host a lecture on Devant.

On the 18th we will host our normal lecture night. This lecture will be presented by magic legend Jeff McBride. Then the next night we will be joining The Magic Circle for a lecture by Ian Keable celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of David Devant.

Who it Jeff McBride?

Jeff McBride, a three time award winner at the International Grand Prix of Monte Carlo, is widely recognized as a foremost innovator and most exciting performer in contemporary magic. Naming him "Vegas' Best" Magician several years ago, the Las Vegas Review Journal wrote: "Light years ahead of the pack.. McBride is easily the most exciting and mesmerizing magician I've seen in years." For several years, McBride headlined at Caesars Magical Empire in Las Vegas, where he was voted critics' choice as Best Magician in Las Vegas. He is also a three-time Guiness World Record holder.

The Magic Circle, among the world's most prestigious magic societies, wrote that "McBride may well be the most influential magician of our time," not only for his performing work, but because he has become magic's foremost teacher. He is the founder of the McBride Magic & Mystery School in Las Vegas, and regularly teaches and lectures at magic conventions around the world.

Who was Devant?

Devant is remembered as the consummate exponent of entertaining magical theater. He was the first President of The Magic Circle and the Society celebrates Devant by using his name for their function room in the Headquarters in London. His words about his own priorities in magic have often been quoted to budding young magicians - when confronted by a boastful magician who claimed he knew hundreds of tricks, Devant gently replied that he knew only a few dozen, but he was able to perform them very well. One of his trade mark phrases was that his magic was done "All by kindness".

Devant was the author of several manuals on conjuring, including Our Magic: The Art in Magic, the Theory of Magic, the Practice of Magic with Nevil Maskelyne.
