Box Office – Jeremy Marouani

Product description : Magic Dream is the biggest magic shop in Europe and is located in Paris, two feets from the Eiffel Tower ! They produced quite a lot of tricks in the past, but this time, they have made a nice packaging as well as an explanation video. The trick is easy to understand : you show several postcards with 10 movies on each one. On each card, one side has 10 movies and the other side has 10 others movies with the number of people who watched it in theater. You ask your spectator to take out one card, look at one movie without telling it to you and then shuffle the cards. You then ask them to find their movie on the other side of the cards, to discover how many people went to see it. From then, you can reveal their movie with the way you want ! Is it good ? Is it worth your money ? Let’s find out !

Price and where to buy it : This is sold at 29.90€ ($35) and you can find it in on Magic Dream website :

What you get : You get a small cardboard sleeve, really nicely printed with the artwork of the trick, simple but cool packaging. Inside, you’ll find a link for the explanation video, which is done in French in Magic Dream by the creator : Jeremy Marouani. The explanation is simple but to the point, Jeremy does a great job explaining his creation. Of course, you’re also provided with the postcards, they have the same size as regular postcards so they can fit in your inner jacket pocket. They’re really well made, with a glossy finish and nice colours. The working behind the trick is not new but has been adapted for French in order to make it easier to do. You also have an additional postcard with all the movies listed and with their rank. Overall, the quality of the product is good, the explanations are simple but good, the price is correct, I don’t think you will be disappointed with Box Office, if you like what you see in the trailer, it’s what you get !

Teaser :

– You need to ask a few questions or watch the postcard they’re holding in order to know the movie they’re thinking about. It’s not 100% direct but your presentation will erase this con.
– They don’t provide any kind of reveal, except the additional postcard, I would have liked them to teach maybe a few ways to reveal the movie.

– I like routines that are cinema themed, they have an original feel, they seem to connect more with the spectator since you and them are talking about things you both have experienced.
– The working have been modified so that it fits perfectly the French language, you don’t have to remember anything, and the cards literally do all the job for you.
– This is different, it’s not cards or coins, it uses a different support such as postcards so you can connect a little bit more with the spectators.
– It’s easy to do, Jeremy has designed everything in order for you to do it very easily.
– The good thing for us, French people, is that the cards are made in French so they are very usable in the real world. Maybe an English version will follow up.
– The movies used on the cards are recent ones so people will react and speak about them with you. It’s not like those movies are from the 80’s.
– It will be a different out at each time, people can really think about any movie they want.

Overall rating : I like the simplicity of this routine, the plot used and the quality of the whole product. However, I won’t use it, I don’t want to carry those cards with me, 3/4 hearts.

As for the difficulty level, the only difficulty is to find a way to detect their movie, I would say 2/5 stars.

Similar products : Director’s Cut by Simon Shaw and Screen Test by Steve Dimmer are 2 others tricks which involve cinema and movies in general.
