Once, all generic jokes had a beginning, even the good ones.
Some of the better ones happened by chance, a response to a situation and hey-presto and your audience is laughing. These situation jokes are just a one off, other times a stock line joke is born. For example Many years back a guy in full bike leathers was pushing his 1000cc Yamaha motorbike right through my show, hard work. I could only assume he had broken down. So with a mischievous glare I watched him pass me. While he was still in my circle I said. “I know, you took your stabilizers off." To my delight my audience fell about laughing and a joke was born. So now when ever I see someone pushing a bicycle (far more common than a motorbike) I come out with that one liner “I know, you took your stabilizers off.” that evolved into “keep practicing you will get there.” Often the person pushing the bike will laugh. It works your welcome to try it. I forgotten more one liners than I can remember and its a lot of fun. What one-liners have you come up with in response to a off chance situation on the street? |

So a jogger runs through my show.
I say hey got a cigarette? Two old people walk through the show. I stop and say there they are Mr. and Miss America 1972. Looking as good as the day they won. A guy standing with his arms folded. I say hey man you should quit hugging yourself and get a girlfriend. These I did not make up heard them years ago like 89 or 90 in Australia There were a ton of covent garden street guys working their during that time. Nickoli |

In Auckland there use to be a bakery near one of the pitches and it sold stick loafs. And often people would walk past with a back pack on there backs with a loaf sticking out. One day I just called out 'madame your begin stalked by a bread loaf' I used that line a lot!

I had someone walk by with a sweatshirt for Brown University, the shirt was green with the word Brown in yellow letters, I looked at him and said; “Someone lies to you son, there’s no Brown anywhere on that shirt!” The crowd laughed.
My favorite, it isn’t mine, was the busker working as an ambulance screamed past. He looked at it going on the distance and said; “He’s never going to sell any ice cream going that fast!”

When someone carelessly walks through my pitch, I tell my audience not to be angry with him, It is just a Stage he is going through.
