Hi David
Now that it’s springtime in Chicago (Lol) I’ve got to get there to catch your new show. Looks very interesting, do you also perform in the lounge? Best regards Amerigo

Hey there, Amerigo. Not sure I understand the question. The show takes place on the main stage at the Lounge. If you’re asking whether I perform close-up in the bar or at the tables, the answer is no; they have a dedicated crew of close-up performers. I do occasionally work the 654 Club, the close-up theater at the Lounge, but not on Wednesday nights.

I was in Chicago last week and caught your show on Wed and the late Friday show. I enjoyed your show and it was certainly enjoyed by everyone there.. Place was packed all nights and is really a great venue. The two young guys that headlined the late show were really good and the crowd was into it all. Really nice to see. Unfortunately I wanted to see Danny Orleans as he was advertised, but he didn't appear at the late show. I saw him leaving just before it started. It looks like the owners have a success there. Good luck to you and the rest of the performers. Thanks for a great evening of magic.

Thanks, Hermit! The Cabinet of Curiosities is the culmination of about twenty years of work, all put into one show, so it’s dear to my heart. I’m glad you enjoyed it and the rest of your visit to the Chicago Magic Lounge!

At this point, the Cabinet show is not built to travel. Eventually I’d like to put together a version that I could tour with. That’s some distance down the road, though. Right now, the show is just hitting its stride...

How many minutes does your show run, David?

My show is about an hour long. Before the show starts, there’s an hour of close-up magicians working the tables.

Last Wednesday, I wrapped up my yearlong run as artist in residence at the Chicago Magic Lounge. The Cabinet of Curiosities has closed (but not forever, I hope). I want to thank all the magicians who dropped by to see the show. It was great to see old friends and make some new ones! On closing night, someone in the audience captured the last few minutes of the last show. It seems appropriate to post here: |

Brilliant! Congratulations, David, on wrapping up your residency. I only wish I could have stopped in. I’m glad I was able to see your excellent performance at Bizarre Hauntings.

David, I learn so much from seeing and hearing things in action.
As a relative newcomer... I'm particularly drawn to your use of script, tone, and pacing. There's a heck of a lot packed into that 3 mins 55 seconds. Thank you for the education! |

Merci, Morgaine!
Scottishpiper, you saw a bit of the Cabinet show without the cabinet. I’m glad you enjoyed it! |

Penduluminary: Thank you for your thoughtful comments! That means a lot to me, because I remember how much I learned from watching Doug Henning, Eugene Burger, Tony Andruzzi and other magicians who influenced my work. Watching them was how I learned about script, pacing, tone, etc. So much of a performance rests on our tone and attitude and posture. This piece from the same show has a very different tone:

Very enjoyable!
Seeing those clips, surely is a disappoint that I couldn't see the full show. Congratulations on the run and break a leg on the next project. |

Wow, loving that Lucid Dream piece! You've taken a basic CMH and turned it into high art, *** that is good! I am humbled......
