I will be doing close-up at a buffet-style wedding in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions on how to cover the most people? Should I wait until a line forms for dinner then work the tables waiting to get up? Then I could catch the first half of tables as they are finishing up. The other train of thought was to work the line but it seems like this would be a bit rushed as people are trying to get their food.

Buffet-style dinners are my least favorite. Having said that, I always follow your ideas above: start with the people still seated, and by the time you work across, the first people in line may be close to finished with their meal.
Approaching the line itself leaves a lot to be desired. Have fun! |

Sometimes the host or hostess will ask for you to entertain the people in line. It's not as good, but, if they ask, do it.
After all, it's their party, and they are paying the tab.

I don't like buffets. The tabel magic is the best. The person can order there food, you can bust out a few things for them, next thing they know there food is out and it seems like it was only a minute for there food because "hopefully" ahhah you entertained them. I still do magic to people how have got there food. Sometimes its better to take care of them when you can instead of miss them all together.
I also do agree with Bill P. They are the ones paying you and sometimes you have to do certain things to make the customer happy. You may get called back for more work from that person.
