I have seen many magician do this trick where they look like they take a cig, pencil, crayon, etc., and push it up their nose. Then they pull it out their ear. I know the item is palmed, but I can't seem to get the moves down. Does anyone know where I could find an online tutorial describing this, or a video?
Many thanks- -Casey |

Tom Mullica's video from Steven's Magic Emporium describes this effect in detail. His is the method that I've been using ever since I learned it.

Just as a little variation I push it into the eye, pull it out of the mouth, then push it back into the ear and have it come out the nose. It helps to pull it from the mouth and nose becuase you can pinch it a little.
Hope that made sense. p.s. People seem to love this trick. It's a big hit. |

In the late 70's, while I was working in Reno, the place so close to &*)), you could see SPARKS (Nevada)as a Nearly Normal Counselor at the State Hospital, I met an acrobat/clown at the Circus Circus.
I believe his name is Tony. He was listed in the record book as the first person to do a triple. (somersault not lift) He showed me the "geek" bit where you actually put the cigarette up your nose. It is sort of like the nail bit but done slowy. (as this is potentially very dangerous I am NOT recommending it.) On the very rare occasion that I do it, I use a q-tip for more stability and of course a "cleaner" show. Harris

Years ago, I had this effect and sold it. I think it was called: "Berland's Cigarette Control." Great, easy to use gimmick.
I sold it because Cigarette tricks aren't popular at kid shows. |

The palming is hard to get down, especially if you are using large, long items, such as pens, pencils, etc. Also, just a pointer, but when you do this trick, note that it works best with something that is unicolor for the whole length of the item, such as a pencilcrayon, pencilcrayons are my personal favorite, as they do not have an eraser held on the end by the metal piece typically on pencils (sorry about the terminology, but you know what I'm talking about, on a pencil). When they are unicolour with nothing "stuck on" one end, it increases the effect, as it looks more realistic.
