I don't think people look at these books any longer. When was your last time you look at these books?

Two days ago, as a matter of fact.
I skim through them frequently. I often get very good ideas when I dip back in to Tarbell. |

Last night! I doubt if a week goes by when I am not looking for something specifically. Much Like Dia, I like to browse through them from time to time.

Last week. And, I will do so again tonight. It is amazing the "new tricks" you find that are in these tomes.

I think people under 25 doesn't look at them. It's us (the old guys) that I think only look at them.

Ah, sadly, I miss my Tarbells.
Bought them used for $40 from a guy who had failing eyesight. Before I left Maine for Florida, I had to lighten the load quite a bit. Sold those Tarbells for $60 along with a PLETHORA of other stuff. Sure do miss my Tarbells. Doug |

I remember getting mine out in Vegas. The whole set for something like $75. And carrying them home in my carry-on bag. I look through them a couple times a week. I figure I'm looking for "new" stuff to do to pay off my physical therapy bills.

In my opinion the Tarbell books are far superior to any books that have recently been published. I have seen many effects performed and had asked, "Hey ,that is really great. Where did you get it?" Out of Tarbell is the answer many times.
Anyone having a complete set of Tarbell has more than enough magic than they will ever need. I myself have about 900 books in my collection, and as you can tell Tarbell is definitely in my top 10 list of favorites. Rennie
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

I look at my Tarbell books every week. Especially a trick that might be old but can have a new twist added or leave it the same and still have a big reaction.
As far as Magicusa said, I just turned 27 on the 25th of April. I don't consider myself old but I am not that young, and I have had my books since I was 12. They have grown on me ever since. I also agree with mdspark. I too am glad that some of the younger generation don't look at them or even know of them. As far as the Blainiacs go, I hope they never learn of them. And again to Magicusa I am in great appreciation for my more seasoned or veteran magicians like Dai said. If it wasn't for all of you, there would probably be very little new magic if any at all. Thanks to all of you, you are not forgotten. Daniel

There are some absolute gems buried in those volumes. For example Marlo's One at a Time Aces, The Travelers (coins across effect), Stewart James' Hindu Ring on the Rope to name just few.

Magicusa, I'm 22 and refer to Tarbell at least every other day.
..."I consult mine regularly...and glad the younger guys and Blainiacs don't! lol." -mdspark, why not encourage the younger guys by introducing them to the knowledge of Tarbell? Or at least not be happy about the fact that you have something they don't. One can truly open any of the books to any page at any time and find something truly valuable. |

I operate the library at the magic club that I attend, and not many people take them out. Their loss.
Having said that, some people do have their own set. Rob |

Here's alittle info: Shoot Ogawa, who is now considered a master close up worker with many brilliant ideas. Well, he has only read one book on magic all of his life and it's the Tarbell Course. He still goes back to it to make up new effects. That alone should teach many that there's no need to rush out for the latest and the greatest when you can probably find it in a dusty book somewhere.

Thanks for the info. I did not know this! The magic in these books are so old that they are new to the young people of today. When I see something in a magic ad, I sometime say to myself, this is in the TARBELL COURSE IN MAGIC.

I don't know about you or anyone else, but the 'Blainiacs' I come in contact with, simply don't want to read when I DO give them suggested readings, Tarbell included! And I even offer to help them inperson... The ones I was referring to simply want you to spoon feed them. If they have no more interest or passion than that...then I am sorry. |

To show the validity of these books-Have you ever noticed how many references there are to these books in The Collected Works of Alex Elmsley and other great publications?Amazing!!!
