If you bought JB Magic (Mark Mason) Copper,Silver, Brass expecting the gaff to be Chinese/Silver (like a Johnson CSB), you were disappointed.
I know I was! Even when used as an English Penny insert the edge is still GOLD, not Copper.
BUT I NOTICED SOMETHING!...
We will name the two parts Chinese Gaff & Gaff Insert (if you have one, you know which).
Chinese Gaff is made from a Joker Magic Gold/Black coin. The underside is silver metal (probably aluminum).
I thought: if I could just remove the Gold plating ONLY ON THE EDGE, it will look like a silver coin when the Gaff Insert is showing as a Walking Liberty!
IT WORKS AND LOOKS AWESOME!...Here’s how:
With a Sanding Block and some extra fine grit sanding paper (400 or +)
Hold the Chinese Gaff thumb/index on face/underside.
Hold the sanding block with other hand.
Sand the edge, working along the full circumference. Be gentle, don’t expect the plating to be removed in one pass!
You will eventually see silver showing. Keep working until all gold patches gone.
Finally, you will need to remove the gold on the thin rim of the underside Chinese Gaff.
Lay the Chinese Gaff with Chinese facing up with the thin rim downward on the sanding paper.
Put your index finger on the Chinese Coin and with a circular motion and light pressure.
Keep checking to see when the plating is gone and STOP.
CHECK how it looks and make sure no gold left when showing as Silver coin.

that's IT! You are left with a Chinese Gaff with an Infinity Edge!!
You don’t have to tilt any of the Coins worry about edges. When the Chinese Gaff is showing Chinese the silver edge reflects your palm which makes it look normal.
PM me if anyone wants After Pictures of the modifies Gaff.

ENJOY!!!

I assume you would have to do the same to the reg Chinese coin in the set too? or do they (Joker) make a silver coin you could buy for around $5?

Hey Poof-Daddy!
GREAT QUESTION!:
I did not modify the edge of the regular Chinese Coin.
You CAN do it, But the Chinese is usually laying on the palm when you open the hand; and the silver edge reflects the palm (just like the regular coin does) so it doesn’t look like silver.
However, when removing the Silver side gaff at the fingertips, the edge and rim color is critical. Without removing the gold, it is like NEON! (LOL).
So, that is why I personally leave the Chinese Coin as is.
If you play with your routine in front of a mirror or video, you can decide if it is needed or not.
Blessings Poof!

Stephen shared his picture on his modified csb and it’s perfect. I too have a chinese shell which is all gold vs gold/ silver as I expected. It’s the perfect solution and kudos for coming up with this

I was in JB Magic site and noticed that the CSB set NOW HAS the Chinese Shell edge is now SILVER and remilled edge!

When I came up with my solution, I shared it to JB Magic. I was thrilled to see they had incorporated this improvement for the same price!

I emailed to JB Magic and gave them kudos and asked if they made the change due to my email to them a year ago?
Response:
“Hi stephon
We always appreciate all feedback and trick improvements. In this case though we had already had silver edge before but then the chinese coins dried up. I managed to find another supplier about last year.
Mark”

Coincidentally exactly the same time as my email. Not that I’m trying to pat my back, just a quick feedback to me would’ve been nice. Thanks to all of you that DID reply and improved your existing gaff!
