The song of the original ‘Musick Box’ was a very well known piece of music and had a story that fit that era. The music had a strong hook to currents events. Is there such a song today that is realizable and speaks of a current event? What song would fit ‘The Musick Box’ today?
I don’t really listen to music very much these days and have no idea what is out there. I guess someone will ask what the story is about, so that they might suggest a song. I have no story, at least not 100%. I also can see that there would be songs that best fit the age of the person/people who might witness the act. So maybe a short list of songs that represent each age group of people may also be a thought. With people in their 20’, 40’s, 60’s, and beyond, a popular song of their generation might be good to gather. People that are older, would remember a song from their past and be moved when they hear it. So, I guess that I am now asking for a few songs that would mean something to people of different ages. ‘The Musick Box’ can have more than one story and music so that it would best fit the group that is participating. So to recap, what song today would fit ‘The Musick Box’ and what other song might be considered for age groups? Good Thoughts Ray |

You are really limited by what the movement manufactures produce. Check rockler.com and then search music box movements and you'll see what I mean.

You can find all this out via google, ray! just look for favourite songs of the 60s/70s/etc... you'll find all kinds of lists...then you can cross reference them against big historical events that went on at the same time too...
I've asked to be banned

I realize that the story is really the main focus that will drive this emotional motivated type act and that the music/song brings everything to a fitting close. I will work on two stories and then Google music that will best fit the story line. Thanks Ray |

I think you will have to indeed finish your script and then the period the tale is set in will reveal the music
there isn't much current that would be a swap for puff (except maybe soft kitty)

For a really haunting piece from a "haunted" music box - try Clair de Lune by Debussy.

The best known song today about loss and longing (though it is more than a decade old) is My Heart Will Go On from Titanic. Unlike many well known songs of today that can only be recognized by being sung, that song has easily recognized instrumental melody that would sound good on a music box.
