I would recommend the cups and balls. Don't be afraid that some say it is outdated. There is ample room for interesting presentation, there are few things more amazing than the final loads, and the misdirection skills you will develop are applicable in your other effects.

Both can offer some amazing deceptions. But personally I'd say to go with the cups and balls.
