I had several times a problem with the life equotation and dismissed it. Maybe due to lack of my performance, but people always were amazed in the beginning but came back to me later one with "I know how you did it"...
As it is now again part of a routine in the lectures: any tips on how to avoid making the mathematic procedure obvious? |

I felt the same and now I am absolutely sure I’ll be using this approach.
(I’m excited to try it out now) Peter has been hitting home runs. (That’s an understatement.) Side note; Just saw some reviews of a show I did last week. I’m convinced the “he’s the real deal” etc comments, were directly off the back of Peters (shared) approaches and how I’ve been incorporating them. I can’t heap enough praise and thx his way. Anyway, good luck folks

I can't remember if Pete including the same phrasing in previous releases of the effect. The main difference is the twist he has provided, for an ending. It's great, but I'm yet to try it out. But if the people are amazed at first, but challenge it later, it comes down to one thing: they remember the procedure verbatim, and tested it out with different numbers. so they either A) didn't completely buy into your revelation process, or B) the procedure stuck out like a sore thumb in the back of their mind. Peter scripting makes the procedure very fair, and one thing that seems small but is ever so important: the build up and reasons why there is a procedure in the first place. These lecture notes cover that. One comment on your part can make the difference between: "why can't I just think of any number?" And "I agree, this is fair, no way you could know this number.. and I'm glad I have a calculator handy, couldn't do this in my head". (These are both thoughts that occur in the specs mind, not spoken outwardly). Secondly, the revelation. Pete spends quite a bit of time talking about the subtleties that make the revelation real, and shows you how you can reveal very specific information in a very fair manor.. like for example the exact digit in their number they are currently thinking of. I think convincing someone you are really in their head, will ultimately make them forget the procedure steps, and just remember the feeling. The lecture notes contains a twist ending, and I think it's interesting. The most important thing is that they remember the feeling, but not every step. Placing this piece in between two others effects can help do that also. Doing this as a one off can leave someone (if you aren't completely convincing) remembering how they got to the number.. this leave the method wide open for testing if they wonder off thinking about it. Side note - I'm excited to get the drawing dupe set up, I really think it's powerful stuff. |

This helps plant the picture in their head that the numbers would be different for everyone. The last number you ask them to add on to that should be stated in a toss away and nonchalant after thought fashion. When you go over the events that have occurred just now, I personally point out how the two years they used are unique to them especially in combination and I don't mention the other numbers which were involved. |

Thanks largely to Peter,
my presentations are much more along the lines of story telling these days. A fun, steady, rolling series of interesting events, that conclude with an unforeseen ending. I don’t think some of his work is ideal for street fairs and trade shows. (Some of course is) Most take a bigger investment in the moment. Took me a while to come around to his way of thinking, but I’m so happy I stuck with him. (Guess I’m officially a fan boy now Hope the days treating everyone great

A lot of people brush off Peter, Michael, and Fraser as just going around stooging left and right because they don’t understand the subtleties in the scripting thus they miss it and can’t get the material to hit at a high enough rate for them to be workable. Unfortunately, when it comes to video releases, it makes the material harder to learn because the subtleties are often explained in mere tens of seconds. As a side note, this is where the written releases are actually easier to learn from but the negative to that is that you don’t fully grasp how the flow of the scripting is supposed to go. This includes where to add your pauses, when to cut a spectator off, etc. It’s really the meat and potatoes which are of the utmost importance in their work and releases. Side side note, this is a reason that Michael Murray’s Isolation I feel is thus far the best release thus far on propless/script-reliant effects where you truly have all aspects covered since you have the physical book and the ridiculous amount of videos you get access to. End of side and side side notes |
