I know how a lot of people feel about magic on YouTube and I have cringed myself at some of the less-than presentations and or exposures...It just ain't right. BUT... There is also a lot of good magic to be had up there...I just want to mention a few that always catch my eye, either because of their magic, teachings, or overall sense of entertainment & wonderment...And sometimes you find videos that are made of all 3 and even a little bit more . And they're all doing some coin work, too. Anyway, these are few of the few good men up there... Chris Ramsay - All around fun guy that is not only a very cool magician, but is pretty funny and brings you all sorts of magical situations, & other things. 52 Cards - Just a great teacher, very elegant and thoughtful as to the magic. You will learn if you watch him...He's that good, an absolute resource! Vinny Marini - The Godfather makes you and offer you can't refuse in not only presenting a lot of good closeup magic, but he'll help you to learn it, too. Oscar Owen - Great productions, presentations and a love for the art that is so plain to see and appreciate. Mano - What a gifted magicians...Each finger like a magic wand. He can do anything coins as good as the best out there. Hoping for DVD one day soon. ObrienMagic - Just an enthusiastic performer that works hard at it, and has perfected his everyday street magic to art. PigCake - An offbeat, quirky, helluva a magician with some great chops. He's entertaining, all over the place, with loads of wonderful magic & mayhem. M3NTAL MAGIC - He's like McGyver putting tricky magic together, a lot of it very clever and always so simply done. KammMagic - Just the consummate closeup man, as good as anyone with a deck of cards, and coins too. Marvelous worker! FernandoP1 - Just so darn artistic in his approach to magic. It's just beautiful to watch him work. malone1 - Very clever closeup magician, with tons of ideas and creations. He should put out a DVD of his fine works. SankeyMagic - Love his zaniness as to magic, but behind it is a very clever and capable magician on so many levels...A great one! Coin Magic Underground - Love what this guy has done with his presentations of himself and others. He showcases the magical underground, loads good stuff down there. Thanks, Tyler Rabbit. Sean Goodman - Love his work from across the pond or right up here as simplymagicweb...A real working pro that is not only a stellar closeup man, but can really the rock the coins as well while creating good magic for all. His presentations are tutelages in how you gitter-done out there in the real world. Card Tricks - "Andy Field Magic" is just clever stuff and I really like the way he delivers it, and I think you will too. Nice stuff to break up all the coin work. There are many more of there very talented up there delivering some wonderful magic experiences (and forgive me if I've missed you here), but these are a few of the ones I've come across and just had to tip my hat to their sense of production, magic, willingness to share & help, amazing skills and great respect for the art. Please check out there pages up on YouTube, you'll be glad you did...And feel free to post some of your favorites that do this well.

Before the thread gets into the good the bad and the ugly of YouTube magic, here is a great article by Lee Asher on the subject.
http://www.leeasher.com/playground/artic......ure.html There are several magicians channels I like. None are "exposure vids". One that stands out is cardfreak007 - He posted "performance only" videos of several effects from "52 Memories" and after watching them performed (well, I might add), I purchased the book myself.

Mano's Coin Magic can not be seen on Youtube because Mano does not want that (publicly). Mano's coin techniques are special, unlike any other known coin techniques. You have to see that. You have to study Mano's coin techniques well, there are a lot of Mano's own coin techniques I've never seen before. I also hope that Mano will release a "Mano´s Coin Magic" DVD soon. Unfortunately, I have not met Mano in person yet, we only have email kontakt (Mano we will see each other, as I wrote you, someday). I have some Mano's coin routines, his private videos that Mano did for me and I'm proud that Mano gave them to me. And I have to say something else. I've never met anyone like Mano, someone so helpful. Respect! Marion, I have to say that you always helped me, no matter what I was looking for. Whether your great routines, or techniques. Respect. You have always been there for me and I would like to thank you as well. greeting Darko (malone1) |

Youtube is definitely a double edged sword whilst you can see some wonderful magic presented flawlessly by a master of their craft unfortunately its usually immediately followed with an exposure video of the same effect by an incompetent 10 year old.

Good point Warren, Youtube is, after all, on the net, which makes it 100% true and wonderful

There are video segemts featuring some magic dealers performing effects which wreak of "Hey I coudnt really be bothered practicing this or making any kind of routine for it but please purchase it anyway because I've just just bought a boat and need to keep up the repayments." I have to agree though, there are some wonderful examples of magic on YouTube and it gives performers a platform that TV only provides for a minute percentage of artists. |

I think it is hillarious!🤣🤣🤣. Lighten up a bit! this is exactly what is wrong with our country today! It seems as if everybody is standing in line waiting to complain about how their butt just got hurt. 😐😐😐. hmmm...... Well if they're ever in CO I'll be the first to offer a cold beer and sum fresh bbq! I love it! Remember this one thing: It is always fun to laugh at yourself however it is wayyyy funnier to laugh at someone else! Thank you very much! I'll be here all week! 🤣🤣🤣🤣👈🏼 |

Totally agree with Dollarbill, Ramsey is funny as *&%(. I love the ones where he reacts to other bad magic too. If you put it out there, be ready for the criticism.

Regarding the Ramsay video busting on Blackstone Jr, I don't have a problem with it. I have some problems with some other things he's put up but that's another story. The fact is Blackstone was a great magician who I was a fan of and even saw live, but even he was not immune to having terrible performances. It's unfortunate this one was so widely seen but I'd bet he probably regretted it almost immediately. It was certainly not up to his usual standards. I don't think Ramsay disrespects Blackstone. Chris can take it just as well as dishing it out. He's posted numerous videos of himself screwing up on TV and in live performance.

And I'd like to clarify a little bit here, I hope I didn't sound like a total arse toward 401bound. We all have our opinions. I hate to see someone with 15 posts new to the Café' come on here and get discouraged right outta the gate. That's not what this place is supposed to be about. 👌 $.02 db

I definitely don't agree with everything Chris Ramsay says and I think that the greats deserve respect for their contributions even when they have bad days but I like Chris Ramsay. He comes off very down to earth which is nice. I like some of the other channels too. There's a lot of bad stuff on YouTube but we can learn what not to do from that too.

Chris Ramsay really elevated magic in YouTube. A lot of his subscribers are non-magicians and that's pretty wonderful to see.

I actually am kinda ****ed about one or two people on that list. They are not all revealing what they should be. Chris Ramsay is very good at the ethics of revelation. Oscar Owen is not. He has shown the Raven, he has revealed Danny Urbanus rubber band penetration, he reveals David Williamson's strike vanish. He mixes it with things that are fine to reveal and seem original but he's sure as **** not crediting these tricks. I think more people should be upset with someone like this.
Just watch this and you can judge for yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPOlPDmvjQg Should I not be made at this? It seems like the equivalent of joke stealing. |
