Two on the big screen that spring to my mind are A Few Good Men and Runaway Jury, and, on the little screen, Boston Legal, The Practice, and LA Law.
What about y'all? (Especially looking forward to the lawyers' opinions. I wish I'd thought of this while Bob Cassidy was still with us. May God rest his soul.) |

I enjoyed Boston Legal. Not because I thought it was realistic in the least, I just like James Spader.

A moments respect for “12 Angry Men,” And I like “Bull,” which shows us how much of the law process is theater, designed to sway an audience of 12.

I usually can’t stand Spencer Tracy, but the 1961 film Judgment at Nuremberg is a riveting courtroom drama.
Billy Wilder’s Witness for the Prosecution (1957), starring Charles Laughton, Tyrone Power and Marlene Dietrich, is also outstanding. Nothing much on TV. Used to like Law & Order, but they’ve now become very politicized. |

Personal favorite: Spencer Tracy vs. Fredric March in “Inherit the Wind” (1960). For lots of reasons, and on so many levels.

"12 Angry Men".
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

TV series from the 60s: The Defenders with E.G. Marshall. They would lose their cases from time to time.
I remember one great episode where their client was a guy who seemed to have randomly killed someone on a bus. His claim was that he had ESP and knew the guy he killed was about to draw a gun and kill him. Before the jury gave its decision, he handed a sealed envelope to his lawyers. When they opened up the envelope after the verdict, which was guilty, the message accurately predicted the exact jury voting tally on each of three rounds of polling, and then the final guilty verdict.

My absolute favorite is the Verdict, with Paul Newman. A superb movie, I think.
A more quirky choice is True Believer, with James Woods. Not a great film, but I love watching it now and then. (And yes, it is indeed too bad we can't read Bob Cassidy's opinion on this.) |

And Justice For All starring Al Pacino was a pretty good courtroom drama too.
Bob Cassidy had a special affection for Inherit The Wind, as witness his many references to it on these boards.

I always liked the Verdict as well.
The Reader while not a pure courtroom drama was good as well.

“I, Robot” episode of the classic 1960s “The Outer Limits” TV series: a mechanical man is placed on trial for the murder of his creator.

For a wonderful “off the beaten track” movie, I recommend A Matter of Life and Death (1946) starring David Niven. Also known as Stairway To Heaven.

Absence of Malice - Newman and Fields. Ending has Wilfrid Bremly straightening out an over zealous DA.
