I was crewing on a film re-shoot this Monday, and was wearing my "Magicians have Sponge Balls" t-shirt. The actress in the film saw it, and told me how she had recently seen a magician, and then described to me a standard silk vanish with a TT. She had absolutely no idea how it was done and was nearly begging me to tell her. Her biggest idea for how it was done was that it was some special type of fabric. She was totally convinced that she and a friend had completely burned his hands, they were empty, only to have the silk reappear. It really made my day to see that this all too exposed classic is still being used properly and flooring people. Now I just have to find this magi and congratulate him on a job well done.

I have you this same effect many times on both children and adults and it blows them away everytime! NOT ONCE have I had anyone expose it! I use silk and other small item vanishies all the time these days and never has one not went over well!

I was just reviewing my linking ring collection.
In 1941 a magic expose was done in Life and Liberty magazines. Several articles discuss how the magazine media had ruined magic and that the public would no longer be entertained by certain effects. In particular, the writer said that all magicians should immediately cease doing the linking rings, as the 1940's public could no longer be fooled by this effect. He urged that it be retired from everyone repertoire. The more things change.... |

These observations are amazing!! Just goes to show where short sightedness will get you. NOWHERE!
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

The TT is what got me back into magic.
A friend at work brought one in, and was using it on some other coworkers. Wasn't even trying to hide it (he does no other magic, he just picked one up somewhere). Amazingly, no one caught a thing. He came into my office and you could hear the people outside with the standard pleas: "How did he do that" - "Do it again" That was the day I decided to get back into magic. Phil |
