I imagine many people here may already know about the case of Bridget Cleary but for those that don't I thought it was worth discussing. Bridget Cleary lived in Ireland and in the 1890s it was said that she was a faery changeling. In order to "rescue" Bridget attempts were made to exorcise the faery. In the end Bridget was burnt to death during an exorcism. Her husband and others who were present at the time were convicted of manslaughter rather than murder suggesting that the court judged that they did believe that Bridget was a changeling. I first heard about this case on Tony Robinson's Gods and Monsters show S1.E2. Also earlier that century, 1826, Michael Leahy, who was only 4, was drowned by Anne Roche in her effort to exorcise the faery changeling. Anne was acquitted of murder. For those who may be considering a Faery routine I thought these two events may be of use. If nothing else they show the fear that people used to have of faeries.

Well, it looks like if I drown or immolate a few faerie changelings, I won't get convicted. Good times.

The TV series version of Lore also has an episode devoted to this (with some great acting).
