Jamo,
Sorry you had this experience with penguin. Are they making it right?.....and quickly considering the holidays?

It shipped on time and everything. But can't really judge the quality without the other two pieces. The one piece I do have seems to be well made I suppose. But ofc I can't do anything with this. All I can do is watch the instructions.
Since I bought this as an open box auction item (which although they don't say, I believe are returned items), what I assume happened is the person who had it last must've kept the other two pieces. Then penguin didn't bother to inspect it to make sure everything is there. That's my best guess. I know their customer service is usually good, so I'm sure they will send me a new set. But it's disappointing to know that an incomplete set slipped by them undetected. |

Unfortunate that this happened but I can’t really blame Penguin, I’m sure that they are dealing with so many parcels right now. I’m more disappointed that someone would buy the item and then keep what they wanted and return the rest for undoubtedly a full refund.
I get that it’s disappointing to have to wait longer than expected but you bought an open box item for a discounted price and Penguin is making it right, which means they are the injured party in this case, yet you’re disappointed in them. Did you ever stop to consider that if they had checked the item they wouldn’t have offered the open box deal you purchased and you may not have the product at all? Man, it’s not easy being in retail. |

Retail is extremely difficult for sure and in all good retail businesses, the customer gets taken care of.
I have purchased many penguin open box items in the past and the products always arrived complete. To your point about the busy holidays and shipping craziness, some small % of escapes will happen. On a different note (For Split Focus users), which routines do you use the most out of the many in the video instructions?

They haven't responded yet, but I'm sure that they will make it right. I bought a lot of open box items as well in the past and also have had everything arrive as it should. They are my go to when it comes to buying magic.
No doubt they are much busier than usual for the holidays. I can empathize with them as I have worked retail in the past. So yes it's a fair point to say that videoman, I should rephrase. Am more disappointed just being in the circumstance of receiving an incomplete set than penguin for not inspecting. Was just a bit heated in the moment because also on a somewhat unrelated note, I also bought a Nintendo switch online and received that package together with this one. And they had sent me the wrong item. What luck receiving 2 packages at the same time from 2 separate companies, and they were both messed up. 😅 |

Does anyone know if I can buy a new set without the videos. I recently purchased this set and it is amazing. Unfortunately I lost my outside s&$#l. I feel so stupid but nonetheless my set is ruined. I was hoping I could buy the outside s$%#l or a new set without having to pay the full price for videos?

I have the IKEs. You can’t go wrong with The Split Focus IKE Version since they are Clad.
I also have the Split Focus Morgan Version. I think it’s going to depend on what your expectations are ( ie... circulated, uncirculated, soft). These will not come as uncirculated nor will they come as slicks. Both are quality made. If your question is about how it compares with other triple splits, there is another thread for that conversation in the secret sessions. Cal

Received mine yesterday. I got the Morgan’s and they are very good. I also have a jj coalition set. The Morgan’s are definitely easier to use and are completely silent. The Teflon tape definitely makes a difference. I thought I would maybe use Greg’s to learn the routine and perform it with the coalition set but having received the Morgan’s I will be keeping and using them.

My more than educated guess is that Penguin asked you send it back (you pay for shipping) and then they refunded you. Penguin will not provide a replacement for a defective Open Box product per store policy. I know this for following up with Penguin for my Smoke Watch Pro I purchased via Open Box that had its vibration element stop working within the first 20 smoke puffs. However, I was confident Joao Miranda would back up his product, which he did. Joao's support is awesome. Penguin's support is excellent as well. I am bummed that your Split focus was split up Jamo. It is amazing that someone would return a 1/3 of a product, and that Penguin wouldn't check BEFORE offering a refund. Shame of that person for ripping off Penguin, and it is too bad that Penguin did not conduct quality control. |

I received Split Focus today, along with some other items I picked up on sale via an Open Box sale. I would have happily paid the asking price for Split Focus. I am loving the quality of everything that came with Split Focus, and there are so many quality routines. The hard part is picking a favorite to start with.

I just noticed that Hocus Pocus had these on sale for $100 so I ordered from them this morning. After reading some of these post I'm pretty excited about receiving these as well. I will post my review after I've had a chance to go over some of the videos and look at the gimmicks.
Good magic to all, Eric |
