With the kind permission of the Sixten Beme Estate, all of Sixten’s work on the Linking Card effect can now be disseminated to a new generation of magicians.
This ebook collects Sixten Beme’s 1979 and 1996 manuscripts, and also describes Sixten Beme’s unpublished favourite handling for informal situations – that even fooled those who themselves performed Sixten’s original handling.

You can see a performance of it here at timecode 7:18.
Unfortunately, not very well rehearsed:

Loved the Matrix card effect on that video.

So as Doug said at the end, this version had no tears and can be given out as a souvenir?

It can be given out, it is prepared in a creative way to disguise the tears. It is a fair amount of work to make these up.

Fair amount is an understatement. It is such a hassle. Like 20 minutes per set, maybe 10 when you are a master. Unless there is some new work on it. I also have not seen the informal set up. Great effect though, just not for me.

Ben Williams has a signed version that can be handed out (One Card Link). It's a great premise and the fact it can be signed was mind blowing. Unfortunately it requires some serious back stage work to prepare. My opinion only. More than worth it if you have the patience.

Not sure why you say "master", when you'd have it down to 10 on your third attempt. And yes, everything is a hassle for some.

I like Ben's but it feels somewhat sloppy in handling. Could anyone with both of these compare the two? Does this one require 3-play cards or can it be done with business cards, etc?

I most say, Paul Harris, is mostly other peoples effects, totally revamped and usually made much easier for the average magician to quickly learn. Paul Harris never gave credit to anyone in his books, except as I remember one or two close friends.

I found this information out myself, buy comparing classic and new effects of the time, and compared them. Wish I would have made notes on so I could give references.

I think it is great, Paul Harris simplified many classic and new classic effects so many could perform these effect.

One example is the Invisible Palm. I have the manuscript by Bruce Cervon which is a bear to learn, and requires additional books to purchase to learn the sleights necessary. Paul Harris has simplified it, and added a great presentation to the effects.

Paul also mentions that he used magic conventions to "jam" with others on effects. These usually were later published by him, with his added touches.

I of course love Paul Harris, but he never received the recognition he deserved from the magic community. I believe it was for the reasons mention above.

Just my 2 cents, and thoughts on this argument, it could surely be as Harry Lorayne states.

I have the original Sixten Beme Linking Cards booklet from the 1970's, never really to into because of the extensive work needed to make a perfect gimmick playing card.

It is a baffling effect, I believe it was shown on a television special once.

Several TV specials. Doug Henning, Paul Daniels...
The extensiveness of the setup is exaggerated. It just looks massive at first, when you’re not used to this kind of effects. Once you’ve been familiar with it, it isn’t too bad at all. Especially if you make 10 sets a time.

Here's what I know about Paul Harris' linking card routine for anyone who is interested..

Paul released "Cardboard Connection" in '77. I remember seeing Jerry Mentzer demoing it at his booth at a TAOM convention. He did it very well, but it wasn't easy. Still a great trick.

Around that time, I believe that a young Jay Sankey approached PH and showed him how to show two folded cards as two flat cards before they link. Paul acknowledged Jay's idea in the Tannen's Stars of Magic "Immaculate Connection" manuscript in the early 80's, but I don't think he knew his name.

I saw David Copperfield perform "Immaculate Connection" on one of this TV specials and I recorded it in the 80's. And, Paul lectured in my city after the Tannen's release and I remember how fluid and effortless it looked when Paul did it.

So, that's what I know about PH's linking card trick. I also bought "Quantum Leaps" around that same time. Great book. And, Harry's impromptu linking card was in there along with some truly great card magic. One of my favorite books to this day.

I later bought Sixten Beme's linking card trick. Several of my magician friends recommended it highly and it is a great method.

IMHO, I think Paul Harris' "Immaculate Connection" is the best of the bunch. It's totally impromptu, and I think it is a perfect example of Paul Harris' genius. (And, Jay Sankey should get some credit, too.)

I remember Harry's routine ... very simple, clean, only uses two cards ... no extra pieces.

Simply drop 'em together and spin 'em around and they're linked. They're linked so much so, that you have to tear one to get them apart.(really tear it right there on the spot - no hiding any pre-tears)

And there's a very strong proving sequence as the card is torn that shows very clearly they were linked. A good, clean, impromptu routine for sure.

I had totally forgotten about Harry Lorayne's effect. Learned it many years ago. Just watched a video of his performance and it all came back to me. Never did any of the other versions. Fun little impromptu quickie.

Maybe I'm not remembering right, but Harry's routine, only uses one card.

To me the most baffling link I’ve ever seen is Osmosis as featured in Art of Astonishment Volume 2. It is done impromptu with just two cards and it is some of the oddest and most mesmerizing visuals which truly seem impossible. You start clean and you end clean.

It even includes Harry’s link at the end. It is truly wonderful.

Although it is a fantastic linking card effect, and has multiple phases, it is not exactly impromptu because you have to do a minor thing to one card before you can go into the routine. But it is a great effect. I remember doing it many decades ago. Unfortunately, it's one of those things that if you don't do consistently you forget all the various moves needed.

It can be done fully impromptu. See "Osmosis Options" at the end of the method description.
