About 10 years ago, whenever anyone was looking to get into card magic and learn the fundamentals, the standard recommendation was nearly always Oz Pearlman's Born to Perform Card Magic.
Is that still the go-to video that people suggest, or has something else come out that is a better and more popular recommendation? Let's say we're talking about someone starting out and wanting to progress to intermediate level fairly quickly. And we're talking videos here, not books. |

I should clarify my question: in this case I'm specifically inquiring about videos only. What is the current video that recommended as best for people to start out with, if they are going the video route to learn basic fundamentals of card magic and get a head start with sleights and effects?
The thread that is pinned to the top of this sub-forum, Magic books and Videos for beginners, was seriously outdated in that respect, because it was locked in 2004, and I'm sure there's been a lot of great videos that have appeared in the last 14 years that might qualify. |

You might look into this set by Brad Burt. Brad is a really good teacher. The ad is here on the Café.

I like Complete Card Magic by Magic Makers.
The effects are taught by Gerry Griffin, who is a good teacher in my opinion. It was a 7 DVD set and the last two discs taught cuts, sleights, shuffles and flourishes. I think it is now a 4 DVD set. Well worth a look for a beginner and some classic effects taught too, such as Triumph, OOTW, Twisting The Aces etc. |

I recently got the digital downloads of Roberto Giobbi's video course, Card College 1 & 2 Personal Instruction The Complete Course.
It's terrific, and I highly recommend it as a wonderful companion to the classic Card College books. It can also be used independently even if you don't have the books, and is probably THE resource I would point people to today if they were looking for a video series to learn the fundamentals of card magic. I would rate it significantly higher than Oz Pearlman's Born to Perform Card Magic video, given that it has more material, and a better instructor. It's more expensive, admittedly, but it is twice as long (8 hours vs 4 hours), and Roberto Giobbi is an excellent, excellent teacher, with real insight into how magic works, and few are better at this than he is. This was originally sold as a set of 4 DVDs of nearly 8 hours, but is now available as a digital download via Giobbi's website. You can buy the 23 individual chapters/lessons for €4.95 each, or purchase the entire set as a package (a very good deal at €49.95). Card College 1 & 2 Personal Instruction The Complete Course https://www.robertogiobbi.com/site/produ......e-course The first lesson (Fundamental Techniques) is available in entirety for free here, as a sampler: Lesson 1: Fundamental Techniques https://www.robertogiobbi.com/site/produ......amentals |

Daryls Encyclopedia of card sleights covers absolutely everything you need to know. For in depth instruction on routines a good place to start would be Michael Ammars Easy to Master card miracles. He teaches lots of classics and popular routines.
