Does anyone have any suggestions for a good jacket to wear in close up magic? I'm hoping for something that isn't too formal that it can't be worn as an everyday item (so no coattails, please! Haha).

Ideally, this jacket would have some secret things (pockets, magnets, etc.) that would make it great for magic.

Thanks!

No one can suggest what you like to wear, it depends on the event you will be performing. No regular clothing comes with added pockets, you have to install them yourself, or have a tailor or seamstress install them. You can also design dividers for you pockets to separate items, even your pants pockets. So you have dual pockets in your clothing.

You are expected as a performer to be the best dressed person at an event. So if you are doing a barbecue outside, and everyone is wearing short and flip flop, you should wear, long cotton pants and leather causal shoes with socks.

If anyone will wear a suit at an event, you should wear a higher quality and priced suit. You should try to get it on sale.

I suggest you go shopping at a men's store or large department store and and buy some nice slacks, sport jackets and suits. If you expect to be respected and paid well for a performance.

Clothing represents your personality, class status, and importance at the event. If you dress like everyone else, you are invisible to them.

Duluth Trading company has a “presentation jacket”. They have it in twill and in their firehouse canvas. The stuff is like iron yet surprisingly comfortable. Nice thing about Duluth is they design their clothes with extra room and gussets to allow for flexibility when wearing. Also their jackets have tons of pockets. Check it out at:

Scottevest has plenty of storage pockets made to not look bulked up with junk in pockets.
