I will say up front that this episode may not be for everyone. I will say that it should be for everyone, but I recognize that not everyone cares for nor necessarily respects our art's past. But everyone enjoys a good story. And what are stories if not recounting of past events? Therefore, if you like hearing stories then I submit that you do like history. And that is exactly what we have this week: a recounting of funny stories, places and events that make our art so unique. And just because the title suggests that it is about Chicago's magic history, it is really a retelling of magic's history because many of those who are mentioned in the podcast (like Jay Marshall, Don Alan, Ed Marlo and many others) had far reaching influence into magic around the world.
This week's podcast is part one of two installments of a lengthy conversation I had with Don Wiberg, Past International President of the I.B.M., who is a wealth of knowledge about Chicago's rich history. He know so much because he was an integral part of it and knew many, if not all, of the players. Our conversation went on for over two hours which is why I broke this up into two parts. This first installment focuses more on the many magic shops that dotted the Chicago skyline downtown and some in nearby surrounding suburbs. Towards the end of this podcast we begin to move into stories about some of those who made up the original 108 members of the Chicago Roundtable in the early to mid 1900's. You can see some photos of Don Wiberg, read the blog, listen online to our conversation, and download the MP3 file at: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/scot......part-one
