I am thinking of buying this.
I have heard some reviews of it; some have been good, and others bad! Are the mechanics of it anywhere near as good as the fantasio candles (even though I think that they use a different method)? Are the main advantages that it can do multiple effects (ie. float, vanish, appear), or is it well made in itself? As many reviews as possible would be really helpful! Thanks. Sam |

I hate to disappoint you, but the Zanadu model is junk. They are no longer made; McBride is trying to find someone to make them again. If a dealer has any it is left over stock.
It uses a butane lighter for lighting fire places and charcoal grills. The actual wick is a birthday candle. I would not recommend this, unless you think you want it after seeing McBride's routine on his tapes. As they keep changing the design of these lighters, I don't know if you will be able to use it if the lighter breaks. |

The McBride candle is NOT a fantasio candle at all. It is a totally different effect. If you are interested in doing vanishes etc. then get the fantasio.

I have just found out that the reason why it is not sold anymore is because:
1. Art Kahn, who manufacutured them, died about a year ago, and they have not yet found another manufacturer. 2. Since 9/11, it's been extremely expensive to ship anything with flamable liquid or gas in it, and the candles contain a butane lighter. They are currently in talks with another possible manufacturer/ distributor, and hope to have the candle on the market again before the end of the year. I emailed Jeff McBride's manager and he told me this. Hope this helps. Sam |

Yes, I knew all this as posted in my earlier post. I have commented on Zanadu in previous posts and do not want to sound like a broken record.

I actually own one that I bought at the old towne magic shop back in '95. The shop is now called Magic Max. They might have some left but I do not know. The one that I have does have a refillable butane lighter though. The illusion to me is more for stage than close-up. I agree with wmhegbli to an extent. I have performed this about 20 times, but it has been sitting in a box for about 7 years. The problem that I have is trying to find the light that looks like you take the flame off the candle. Haven't been able to find one in a long time. If anyone knows where I can find one please pm me. I just want one to put with it so it can be complete. Daniel

Don't get the McBride candle! It does not look like a candle at all. Stick with the Fantasios!

The Fantasio candles are a different effect than McBride's candle. Keep this in mind when choosing.
