The ring on rope is a wonderful trick and very entertaining when it's well done. In my opinion using your fingers like a scissors to cut the rope gives the secret away.
It shows that the rope was not a solid piece at all.
I remembered a lady sitting next to me at a magic performance and after seeing the magician pretend to cut the rope with his fingers said " I know how he put the ring on the rope, there is a cut in the rope"

Agreed. In contrast, using a knife instead of scissors can enhance the magical thrill and attention.

Somebody might want to inform David Williamson that he is exposing the method...he pretends to cut the rope using imaginary scissors during his routine.

However, it might be safe to assume that he is entertaining his audience to the level where they could give a hoot about method as they are having such a great time!

You hit the nail on the head and are absolutely correct. Finally someone that recognizes entertainment value over the magic value. Thanks.

Rocky and Bill beat me to it, but I was going to voice the same sentiment. I’ve been doing the Williamson routine for years, and it is a realer audience-pleaser!
