Ad copy: What you're about to watch is the prototype video Nicholas Lawrence showed us over a YEAR ago.. our jaws HIT THE FLOOR. Smooth has been in development for over a year, with custom molded parts and assembled by hand by Nicholas Lawrence himself. Here's what it looks like: You see a chapstick melt through a dollar. You see it melt back out. And then you can examine everything... and finally your brain melts. I mean.. what do you say after seeing something like that?? Now here's why this is my favorite pocket trick of all time. 1. The penetration looks better than ANYTHING similar that has come before it. Even before I get to the other reasons, this already makes it the best. You have to see it to believe it. Just spectacular. 2. Pen-through dollar was my #1 favorite pocket trick for years. Then, when Chris Smith's Ignition came out, I preferred that because it uses a car-key, and it's way more natural to have a car key than a pen these days. BUT NOW though, this uses a lip balm, which is EVEN MORE normal to have on you, and for any age of magician (kids with car keys looks fishy). 3. You don't SLAM it through, like you have to with other penetration tricks. You MELT it through.. it looks like a special effect in slow motion. 4. The gimmick is easier to handle than any pen-version before it. We brought some with us to Magic Live last month and they sold out almost immediately. Now we finally have more coming on Tuesday. Reserve yours to guarantee you get one. In the box, you will receive everything you need to perform this absolutely stunning illusion anywhere you go. |

Hum, sorry but the way it works seems very obvious (and not examinable at all). They compared it to "Ignition", but this last one looks more "impossible" (and perfectly examinable) to me.

Hate to be that guy, but...
IMO, there are a couple things wrong with this. 1. The "melt-thru" thing looks like what it is. (We've all had toy daggers as kids...) And I think that signals the method. 2. Most important, though, is this: a Chapstick WILL NOT GO THROUGH A BILL. Well no, you say: isn't that the point? To which I say, well, no! You see, a pen, say or a car key WILL go through. They're pointy, stabby things that you appear to shove through. So shock no.1: you have wrecked their bill. Then you either rip it out, or otherwise withdraw it and - shock no.2 - the bill is undamaged. That's where the magic is. So there's no heat on the penetration: you're shoving it through. It works because of the shock value of wrecking the bill. Putting a Chapstick though? Well that's clearly impossible, so it attracts loads of heat, even when done fairly quickly, and too many people, in my view, will be drawn to the only way that it can be done. Your mileage, as always, may vary, and good luck with what is clearly a well-made prop. |

(There's nothing "shocking" about poking a hole in a bill.) Those trick happen when the hole is restored (there's no magic until that point). This trick happens when the chapstick passes through the bill. It's a penetration. Like any of the other 1000s of penetrations in magic history where one item wouldn't actually "go through" the other thing. Yes, that IS the point. The one thing you have right is that a penetration is going to put a lot of heat on the object that a restoration wouldn't. (With a restoration the heat is going to be on the bill.) And I'm not sure if this gimmick can withstand that heat. |

Its the illusion of the effect. That looks really good. Same as most illusions.

If there weren't I still would not be using certain effects that attract heat. It's part of our art and will always be part of it where some things looks so amazing you will have grabby nosey spectators. And that's ok, as long as you are ready for it. IMO, after performing for so long you will already have an idea what is going to draw attention and a plan in place if it does. Looking forward to receiving this- looks so visually awesome!!

I agree with Ross W's comments above. I suppose you can preface this effect by talking about how Copperfield walked through the Great Wall of China, but since you cannot afford David Copperfield and have no wall, you can demonstrate the same thing using a dollar and a chapstick. In addition, this type of effect really needs a duplicate chapstick to be given out.

I love what I call the one hit wonders. Some one asks to see a trick. Pull out a chapstick.( How organic is that, Vary ) And perform a little illusion that takes up very little pocket space.

So what if it doesn’t fool a small percentage? Just move on. No biggie. To those who it does fool will be well worth the effort imo.

Real people will understand that THAT'S the trick because they're not bringing the pen/key through bill preconceptions with them to the effect. |

How is lip balm more normal than a key or pen, unless you live in Vegas and have no hands and don't drive? Not being a troll, real question - does everyone carry lip balm now?!
