I've obtained a item that looks to be a door knocker. But, it's only 3 in. long.
It, has what looks like a demon with a skull between knees. The figure is hinged so it will lift and there is a knob on bottom as to knock. The piece was on the wall of a house built in 1892. Not, sure when the object was added. The house is next to a Mason Lodge, to. If, there is anyone that may be up on artifacts, please PM me your cell and I can text pics of item to you. I'm not good at posting pics on Café !!! Also, if someone would care to post pics of item, I can text photos to you as well. Thanks, Gary

On an outside wall? near an window?
In the early days windows where shut with just a "door". One left and one right. At day, when this door was opened such little 'hingy' things where used to secure the 'doors' from being closed by the wind. Sometimes those where just simple metal parts. But richer people tend to have them stylized. Excuse my "stuttering" explanation. Although I try to be as good to understand as I can be. I simply don't have the english vocabulary in this area. Hope you know what I mean. |

If it folded up, it would be upside down. I, also thought perhaps a bottle opener. But, it has a flat base with no where to hold bottle in place. It, has paint around the edge also. The owner did not remove to paint around it and painted up next to it, ~G

Hm, would love to see that thing but sending to cell in Germany would be overkill. How about e-mail? I'd pm mine to you and would afterwards post the picture here so we'd get a little help.
An intrigued, Markus |

IS it part of a window transom used to raise and lower an old window. During the Eastlake and Victorian periods some of them were elaborate. I think its called a transom may have the wrong name for that type of hardware. Or it could be a devil hook which were popular at the time.

@ Bill , sent you a PM.
It, was mounted closer to a door. About, at the height of where a door bell would be mounted. Not, near windows. ~G

MentalistCreationLab (Bill), seems to think it is a type of door knocker also.
The size, is what had me curious. I, am much more use to … Big Knockers ! Still not sure of meaning, if there even is. ~G
