I have in my crayon version covered the m.g..t with something soft to stop any sound.
I would imagine you could do that with the pencil on this too 🙂 |

Is the pencil a neccesary part of the effect? I like the idea of pressing around the coin when it's under the paper, to create a 3D indentation on the paper, and then pressing/smoothing that indentation out for the vanish, almost as if it's being 'pressed' into the table from under the paper - would that work?

With a fat oblong crayon for imprints it absolutely does 🙂

You could use something other than a pencil like a crayon but just pressing on the paper over the penny won't be seen. Furthermore, your fingers would be touching the penny. Not good. The illusion is that the penny is never touched by anything other than the tip of the pencil. Everything works just fine the way it is. The only thing I did change now is to use a pack of yellow post-it notes. That seems to make it a tad bit easier to do as the paper is anchored to the table. So instead of pulling out a single 3x3 piece of paper, grab the pack of post-it notes and then peel one off and proceed as normal.

You could use just your fingers but you’d need a gimmick similar to what Axel Hecklau uses for Just a Cup. But I agree this version looks better with the pencil.

With my crayon version you do not touch the coin at all with your fingers you cleanly rub the impression with the crayon and when you take the crayon away everything is cleanly done and stolen away for you 🙂

I have this and have been playing with it. The more I play with it, the more I like it. I have a couple patter ideas and I would like your input on which you like better:
ONE: Patter about making a counterfeit penny. After rubbing the image, I flip the pencil around and then talk about how it's not a very convincing counterfeit. I then wave the eraser over the image, as I talk about erasing it. However, the eraser isn't touching the paper. I then slide the gimmick off the pencil as I lay the un-gimmicked pencil on the table. I sit back and say, "there is just one problem." Whenever I do this, the penny always disappears, and I have no idea where it went. I think it goes to the IRS, like a penalty for trying to counterfeit it." I let them lift the paper to see that the penny is gone. TWO: Patter about whether they have ever seen a ghost penny. After doing the rubbing, I do the same thing, flipping the pencil around so I'm holding it like a wand, with the eraser end sticking out. I also wave the pencil over the drawing in a circle and say: "There you go, a penny ghost." I then tell them that the weird part is that the only way to have a ghost penny is for the real penny to no longer exist. They lift the paper to see that the penny is gone. BTW, in both cases, I start with the same thing he does, asking them if they don't mind if they never see the penny again. I'm having a lot of fun with this, and I would love the café members input KJ |

Well for the reason stated by Peter in the explanation video, I'm sticking to the simple and direct approach that he has already created. Absolutely love this effect and glad that he released it.

Someone posted their own performance video. It’s sometimes helpful to see an effect performed by someone other than the creator
https://youtu.be/IwCezjVkWu8 For those that own this, must the pencil be held in such a slightly unnatural way? |
