If you left it in the position it was in the last time you used it, the transmitter would assume that you are starting from 12. After each transmission, the transmitter assumes on the next transmission, that it is set at 12. The transmitter does not remember what time is currently on the dial. It has no memory of your last performance. |

I just had the opportunity to purchase a previously-owned Frozen in Time - High Tech version for $125. I have verified that it is in mint condition. It was part of an estate collection and the seller believes that this Frozen in Time HT was never used in a performance.
What I don't know for certain is if the one I purchased is one from the original batch and whether or not it will have range issues and/or have occasional issues with precise alignment of the hands (both issues previously reported in this thread). Fortunately, the seller has agreed to allow me to return the item for a full refund if it doesn't work to my satisfaction. Simon, You mention that the 2nd unit that you received had a plastic sleeve over the electronics. Are you talking about the little motherboard off to one side or the unit in the middle of the box? Simon also mentioned that his 2nd unit seemed to have a separate antenna that he didn't remember seeing on his first unit. He asked others to check (their original units) to see if they had a separate antenna. Unfortunately, nobody ever responded to that request. My concern is that I'll receive the one I've purchased, test it out, and be happy with how it is working, only to find that, later, it starts acting up. The more information I have to identify the older, original version, the better. Has ANYONE that purchased from the original batch continued to be happy with the performance of their unit? Thanks! Mark

There was definitely not such sleeve on the first transmitter I had (from the defective batch). Regarding the antenna (welded on the electronic boards), there is one on the transmitter and one in the box secret compartment as well. As I said in my previous post, I'm not sure there was one on the transmitter of my first defective unit. I hope it helps, Simon |

Thank you for the clarification, Simon. The seller has already shipped it so I'll wait and see what I get. It should be here no later than Monday.

My Frozen in Time High Tech arrived and was missing the remote. Thanks to an excellent seller the problem was quickly rectified. In fact, the seller included a wonderful bonus. I am now the proud owner of a beautiful outer box to house the Frozen in Time unit. I learned that this gorgeous box was the brainchild of John Mendoza and built by Terry Starwalt. Photos:
I've reached out to John Mendoza to try to learn more information about the beautiful wood box. Mine is apparently #39. I'm not sure how many were made. If anyone has more information or a link to details (perhaps a Café forum thread) it would be appreciated. Also, I've begun to work on my routine for Frozen in Time. I'm going to base it on the story of the Great Kipton Train Wreck. In April 1891 two trains collided outside of Kipton, OH, a fast mail train and the Toledo Express. Nine people died and the conductor of the Toledo Express was found to be at fault due to a faulty pocket watch. His watch actually stopped running for 4 minutes and then restarted again. Those lost 4 minutes proved to be fatal. That was before there was a standard for the quality and reliability of pocket watches used by train conductors. In fact, the accident is what caused the creation of a minimum pocket watch standard. The person that headed up the crash investigation was a local jeweler, Webster C. Ball. He went on to create a 15 jewel movement pocket watch that was very reliable and it became the standard. With Ball's highly reliable watch in service it quickly became the origin of the phrase "on the ball". And at what hour do YOU think the conductor's watch stopped? Mark

I’ve been performing this via FaceTime. I tell the story of the Great Kipton Train Wreck and alter the story slightly. In reality, the engineer’s pocket watch stopped for only 4 minutes. I tell a white lie and explain that it stopped permanently a few seconds before the top of the hour due to a broken main spring. I go on to explain that, as part of his investigation, Webb C. Ball took a photograph of the pocket watch, which amazingly escaped serious damage in the crash. I have that photo in the box before me. “At what hour do YOU think it stopped?”
I am getting very good reactions to this. Even though my spectators aren’t able to handle the framed photo, I hold it close to the web cam and show all sides and angles. It’s just a single photo that is permanently sealed in a tight frame. Fun effect to perform. Mark
