Firstly, let me state that I have no experience with a proper metal bill tube, so my opinion may be entirely void. I saw a performance of the typical bill tube routine and wanted to try out the effect before I drop $55 on something like a Viking BT. The Royal Magic BT is $5 max so it was a bust, it was just $5. -- The tube feels pretty cheap out the box. Some of the edges and cuts are not clean. There is an inner tube which needs to be secured to the outer tube or the spec can easily figure out what is going on. Some super glue or a few layers of tape towards the top of the inner tube can help provide enough friction so the inner tube is secure. The inner tube and the "secret" needed to be trimmed a little so all the parts would sit flush. I also added some tape on the inside of the secret so that it would have some needed friction. The opening and inside of the tube is somewhat small, so the bill you use will need to be rolled up tight and you will need to use a very small rubber band, or the rubber band will get caught on the sides of the inside of the tube and you will not be able to get it out. --- I haven't been able to really try it out yet, but now that I've made the improvements I've had, it seems very solid. It is a shame that it did not come out the box working properly, but hey it was $5. It wasn't too much a trouble to figure out what I needed to do. If the effect goes well with this BT, I'll definitely invest in something like the Viking Magic BT. 3/5 stars. |

I tried the BT effect out for my girlfriend who has seen me do magic before and knows some of my tricks. She really liked the BT effect. She couldn't figure it out, although at first I tried to get her to hold the BT before the bill vanished but she was scared a spider or something would crawl out. She undid the screw on the cap and fiddled with it and had a really surprised reaction.

Was that 3.1/5 stars (whatever that adds up to) for the Bill Tube or your Girlfriend? You shouldn't be so descriptive with your reviews outside of the secret area of The Magic Café. The reaction to the brass Bill Tube will be exactly the same as it was for the plastic version, but you'll feel better if you pay a lot more for it. You can get an even better reaction using a coin bottle and sleight of hand; allow the spectator to see that the coin bottle is empty at the start and let them screw the cover on. Let them pick someone to guard the coin bottle. Then get the bill, have it signed and make it disappear by your favorite method. Without going near the coin bottle, have the person holding it shake it to hear that something is now inside, then have it opened and the bill removed. Hand the bill back to the owner and let the owner unroll it to see that it still has the signature on it. Or, pay $55 plus postage and do it the way every other magician does it.

^Apologies, I'll attempt to be more vague next review. I was hoping I was being vague enough not to give the BT away, but to provide enough information to the experienced magician on what they were going to get and what they would need to do to what to get the Royal Magic BT up to performance capabilities. The 3.1/5 starts was just a goofy joke as it worked so I bumped it up from 3 to 3.1 stars.

After having the Viking Magic Bill Tube for a while, I'm back to the Royal Magic version. The RM version is more inconspicuous and less clunky to me. Yes, the Viking version not only is padlocked but the lid is threaded, but I feel like the RM version is just as impossible with less for the spectator to do, no? Further, the RM version looks less like a specifically-designed prop and more like something that could have uses in everyday life.
And if we're honest, the traditional routine of the Bill Tube is a bit kooky. We have to make up reasons for why we have this strange tube, and why we have to place the dollar underneath a handkerchief. So despite my other effects being fairly straight-faced and presented as illusions and not real magic, for the BT I lean into the kookiness very strongly. And I feel like the RM tube is better for that. I say I've been practicing alchemy, but am not very good at it, so I have to use this old, weird method with a few weird things. The BT is the container for the alchemical magic and I have to keep the lid on tight, and so I try to transfer the alchemical magic to the bill; but I accidentally transfer the bill to the alchemical container. |

I bought the plastic one made by Royal Magic a very long time ago when I was starting out in magic before I ever bought a brass one and I absolutely loved it!
It worked great, looked fine, and did the trick! I would call it my beginners version and after I bought a brass one years later, I eventually went back to the plastic one. No kidding! It is uncomplicated, does not pull your pants down (lol), and is very easy to use. Yes Will, I agree that it is just as impressive and gets the same seeming impossible results. Please do not get me wrong. I like brass Bill Tubes (the good ones) as well and have a few but have no problem using the Royal Magic plastic one. |

I don't imagine it is "original" with them, but I remember Robb Stiff's company (Magic Masters?) a few years ago sold a neat brass Bill Tube that took about a zillion turns to open.
The method/design is what makes this so outstanding. There is no lock and there is no gimmicked bottom. You can feel 99.99999% safe in letting your spectator thoroughly examine the innocent appearing prop at the conclusion. Someone I know used TWO. One set out in plain sight and later (gypsy) switched for the loaded duplicate tube. Julie |

I have not seen the one you are speaking of but the first model/version they made around 15 years ago was a standard Bill Tube with a lock. It was a bit too long and the you know what was extremely difficult to move. In fact, you could not use that Bill Tube. I have one of those in a drawer somewhere. |
