There are a number of sub-forums on The Magic Café that have topics that are locked and stickied to the top of the sub-forum, and are seriously outdated. By more than 10 years! Two examples:

1. REEL MAGIC MAGAZINE subforum (link)

At the top of this sub-forum is a locked thread posted by Steve Brooks that contains information about subscribing to Reel Magic Magazine. Here's the thread:

Reel Magic Magazine Details...
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......c=213612

That was posted in 2007. [PAUSE] That's more than 10 years ago! The prices and other information in that post are terribly out-dated. Can we please get an updated thread locked in at the top of this sub-forum with more current and accurate information about Reel Magazine? If The Magic Café wants to come across as current and helpful, then it is important to have accurate and up-to-date information (many features have been added to Reel Magic Magazine since 2007!) and its subscription options, which have changed drastically since 2007 with a move away from DVDs and to streaming video.

2. NEW TO MAGIC? subforum (link)

At the top of this particular sub-forum is the following thread that pinned as a `sticky' and locked so no new posts can be made:

Magic books & Videos for beginners
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=19232

It is long overdue to "unpin" this thread and post a new one. The original thread was posted in 2003 and was locked in 2004. In other words, it's now marked as "TOPIC IS LOCKED", and has been that way for 14 years! That's a long time! It is rather outdated at this point, at least as far as videos are concerned. For example, one of the recommended videos given there was VHS only! We have long been in an era of DVDs and digital downloads. Furthermore, in the last 14 years, there have been some excellent videos that have been released that should be mentioned, examples including R. Paul Wilson's DVD companion to the Royal Road to Card Magic, Robert Giobbi's Card College 1 & 2 course (link), and Oz Pearlman's Born to Perform Card Magic (completely re-filmed, expanded and updated in 2014 - see link). I'm sure there are others besides these that could be recommended, and none of these are mentioned there, nor can they be because the topic is locked. It's not a good look for newcomers, nor is it ideally helpful - even though obviously many of the recommended books are still good. Even the books list needs an update. For example, Darwin Ortiz' book "Strong Magic" about presentation has had an excellent follow-up entitled "Designing Miracles", which is about constructing magic, and deserves mention alongside his "Strong Magic" title.

REQUEST

In both cases, there's very outdated information posted in locked and "stickied" threads that is more that 10 years out-of-date. Could we please `unsticky' those old threads, and have administrators post new ones that are more current, which incorporates more recent material and current information, or organize for this to happen? I'd love The Magic Café to keep being a place where magicians help magicians, but for that to happen we need to ensure we don't have information that is out-of-date by more than ten years in pinned threads like these.
