I've recently become interested in these effects and was wondering which one plays bigger or any major draw backs. I would use a palmo for the color change and a fake to real egg doing a teaching routine

PRESENTATION!!! (It aint WHAT ya do, it's HOW ya do it!
Read the color changing silk presentation in my book (page 313) plus the "essay" on SUCKER TRICKS, that follows the silk dye. I used the silk to egg, for YEARS, when I was performing "part time", in the '40s thru '60s. At that time, I used the basic TARBELL presentation. Then, the silk dye was the lead in to the egg trick. There were no video cameras, then. I've forgotten the exact routine. When I started touring, full time, the egg was a bit messy, and required "clean up" of the glass, etc. (3-4 shows a day!) I cut out the egg. The silk dye has played exceptionally well, as the opener for 40+ years. I'll PM you, in a day or two.

Thanks for the reply Dick. I remember you telling me about doing the silk change into egg. I'll reread those chapters later today to better educate myself. I'll also read up on the tarbell version and rices. Was the only reason you quit doing it because of the clean up? I could see how that could be a proble.

I did the edwin hooper (supreme magic) version of silk to egg. In the end you show a different collour silk in the egg. No messy clean up.

For those of you who like to end an egg routine by cracking the egg open to show that it is real, I have included my "broken and restored" egg trick in my routine entitled "There's an Egg in Your Hat" in Mini-mysteries Book 4 on The Magic Nook. After performing silk to egg or an egg bag or whatever, the egg is broken and the contents dumped into a zip-loc bag, along with the broken egg shells. Then the contents are seen to visibly draw back together and reform into an unbroken egg again. You tear and restore paper, you tear and restore playing cards; why not break and restore an egg? Now you can!
