Anyone know what this might be used for? It's like any other long/short deck I've seen, but the long cards are all double backers.
I don't remember acquiring it, but I'd sure like to know what it is if anyone knows! Thanks ahead of time. |

Are the short cards double facers?

This was marketed as a magician-fooler. Sure as hell fooled you into thinking there could be a use for it.
<insert rimshot> First guess: How about an all-backs effect? Second guess: TTTFHAAN - The Trick That Fooled Houdini At Any Number Third guess: Riffle as needed to show a deck with apparently ordinary faces and backs. Have a card somewhat freely selected (any of the 26 ungimmicked cards). While that card is being shown around, casually cut a double-backer to the face and secretly invert the deck. Riffle to show an apparently face down deck - actually the 25 honest cards in the deck are now all face up. As you riffle, the spectator says stop and inserts their selection face down into the apparently face-down deck. Finish the riffle to further sell that the card was returned face down into a face-down deck. Turn the deck over (secretly or openly?) and ribbon-spread it fairly. The selection is magically the only face up card in the face-down spread. (Maybe the deck could be turned over during the large motion of carrying it to the table for the ribbon spread.) Fourth guess: Similar to the above, but with an added Triumph effect. After the return of the selection, apparently shuffle a face-up half into a face-down half. Actually the 25 ungimmicked cards all face the same way as you shuffle. (Details of how to handle the two halves - so that one of the halves appears to have been flipped for a face-up / face-down shuffle when actually neither or both have - are left as an exercise for the student.) Spread to show a good mix of face-up and face-down cards. Spread again after (secretly?) flipping the deck, and all the cards turn face down except for the selection. |
