Look up Henry Christ's 'Mental Stud' and see how this routine could have looked if it had a clever twist.
Can't believe such a watered-down version is sold as single download.

Hi Nicolino, do you have any idea where I could find "Henry Christ's Mental Stud"? I didn't find anything.

One possible source was 'Miracles of Card Magic', a great sampler for a mere $6
From the ad: Over 60 brilliant effects by such legendary cardmen as Dai Vernon, Dr. Jacob Daley, Eddie Clever, Audley Walsh, Henry Christ, Charles Jordan, John Scarne, Leo Horowitz, Walter Gibson, Orville Meyer, Ted Annemann and others. https://trickshop.com/annemann-miracles-card-magic.html Or, maybe you already know Doc Hilford's Junky? It's basically the same. There is a demo on Youtube so you can get the idea...

I own a lot of books and DVDs about card tricks. But I don't own the "Annemann's Miracles Of Card Magic" yet. Thank you for your recommendation. Wow, only 6 $? A bargain

Though I have the Annemann’s download, I never paid attention to Henry Christ’s Mental Stud. Just brilliant. Thanks for pointing this out Nicolino.
For a long time, my (non-impromptu) absolute favourite has been Leo Horowitz's The Twenty-Five Card Trick published in Greater Magic, and John Mendoza’s Mental Poker for impromptu performances. I believe Mental Stud is even better. |

There's a reason Docc Hilford revived the effect by using Poker Chips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUmRXSX4UcE Compared to Mental Stud, Four X Four seems like a toothless tiger. And not only because it uses 5 cards instead of only 4 on each spectator.

Thanks! Edit: WORD OF WARNING Took a look at my purchase and the Kindle version from Amazon is not formatted correctly and looks pretty bad. It is a mix of page scans and searchable text mixed between the two with no rhyme or reason. No page numbers so it is tough to see where you are but you can use the search function. Also the table of contents does not even display the tricks in the correct order, some of the TOC has links to the tricks and some do not. It is readable but you have to work at it. If anyone has purchased the version from Trickshop can you comment on the quality? For under $2 I am still glad to have a version in my Kindle library but buyer beware. |

Robert, I bought the Lybrary.com edition Annemans card magic. It's a mere $4, and futhermore you get two books for the price of one : Ted Annemann's Full Deck of Impromptu Card Tricks and Annemann's Miracles of Card Magic.
The pdf is top notch and the TOC is hyperlinked to the effects. |

Claudio, thanks for pointing out that the Lybrary.com version is much better. I convert ebooks for more than two decades. It is my full time profession, not just something I do on the weekend. I guess the experience shows. It is not enough to merely scan and cobble together a PDF. Already during the scanning a lot can be done wrong, but that is only the start of the process. I think folks will find that in general our digital versions are far superior to what you can find others offering. Not without a reason have Stan Allen, Richard Kaufman, Magic Inc, Abbott's, D. Robbins, and many others partnered with Lybrary.com.
On top of this we are committed to ongoing improvements. For example, we fix any errors that are noted by readers and sent to us. We sometimes prepare special editions for special needs customers. All of these improvements are immediately available to all past customers via a re-download from your digital shelf. (If the download link is red it means a newer version is available.)
Lybrary.com preserving magic one book at a time.

Is Miracles of Card Magic a pdf or is a physical booklet?

Currently thinking how I can combine Mental Stud along with Con Cam Coincidencia to take advantage of multiple spectator interaction. Both are really great routines. |
