First, Paolo, you have to stop saying those things or it will sound like I'm just posting under your name.
Second, Shrink, it was such a trivial thing that I'm not surprised it would even be memorable to you... that alone shows your caliber of professionalism as others would probably harp on it and never let it go. You're way bigger than that I an applaud you. Third, I will attest to Tony's expertise with any device. He's like some demented Santa elf that tickers with every toy in the shop until the wooden soldier not only speaks, but actually carries live ammo! I wish I had Tony's abilities to constantly break apart a gadget and see what's inside... if I did that I know I would kill my patient. Anyway, Shrink, you're going to always have those that say "Coulda-woulda-shoulda', but let them. In the time they waste writing why your invention doesn't work to their satisfaction you will have created three more... and that's three more than everyone else. I'd like to join your discussion group, but I'm away from my own system and won't be back until the weekend. All the best. Greg

Demented Santa elf?
Yes... that fits perfectly what Tony is! Paolo Cavalli

OK, I haven't been here in a while but I just had to share an experience I had the day after I got my IA. Normally, I don't go out and use something so soon, but as this was simply a new impression method and I already have appropriate routines and am comfortable with impression devices, I decided to go for it.
I had to pick up something at the local magic store where it so happens Bill Goldman works behind the counter on occasion. His One For The Money blew me away when I first saw it (and the second and third time as well until I caved and bought it) and he showed me something soon to be released that was just as powerful. I decided I had to fry him and brought out the IA. I did a simple drawing duplication with him. His immediate recount of what had transpired was that I had given him a pad and walked far away while he made a drawing. He then tore it out and put it in his pocket and I came back and told him exactly what the drawing was, having never come near the pad again. Yes, I had some good fortune in what transpired, taking advantage of the circumstances (and of course I did have to briefly handle the pad again), but his recollection of my not touching the pad after I handed it to him to make his drawing is just as much to the credit of the innocence of Brian's IA as anything I did. And he did ultimately look over the pad, while the impression was still visible to me, and found nothing. He drew a face and, more evidence to the sensitivity of the IA, I was easily able to recognize it as my own. The impression is both faint and vivid. I know that is a paradox but it is the truth. Bill speculated about pencil reading but quickly dismissed it, partly due to my being able to tell him that the drawing was of me and partly due to realizing that I was nowhere near him when he did his drawing. Bill asked me to then show the routine to the owner of the store who was giving a magic lesson. The pupil was the artist this time, allowing the owner to focus all of his attention on me and try and catch me out. His immediate response when I revealed the drawing (now, in this case he and the student were aware that I had handled the pad and in fact, like Bill, later examined it without learning a thing) was, "Can you hook me up to carry these?" Bill and the store owner are not generally the biggest fans of mentalism out there. At the same time, both are very talented and knowledgeable. That they both liked the prop and couldn't find a thing speaks volumes. |

How similar is this pad with the Osterland "Imp Pad" that he mentions on his DVD?
|

Not similar in any way really. If you go through all the threads you will get an idea of what this pad can do. The posts in this thread an inner thoughts.
Also here http://www.advancedmind.co.uk/invisible1.htm There is also a free private newsgroup set up for this product as support and sharing of new ideas. For owners only. |

Okay, I tried it out on two individuals and got some interesting reactions.
First, I tried it on a magician I know who is always trying to figure out things. So I started by having him examine the pad to his heart's content and even saying, "Now you know I'll probably be able to get an impression from your writing." Okay, so he draws something. I have him tear out his own sheet and then proceed to have him look over the pad again and taunting him about the possibilities that I could get an impression somehow... he didn't find it. I redrew the picture. He was startled. He said, "C'mon, do that again... or do you have to have some sort of reset?" I said let's go... he didn't realize the pad was ready for two attempts. I had him write a word then had him tear the page and completely examine everything. I got the word. He was amazed. He left for a moment to the bathroom and I reset one side to go again. I did some talking and he kept asking about the pad. He wondered how many times I could do this. I said let's try again. Now he was real cautious about everything he did and still I got it. Beautiful. Okay, so I'm walking away from the restaurant and I run into another magician friend who is out on a date. The date asks what do I do and my friend says I'm the best mentalist he's ever seen... his words, not mine. She still doesn't understand what it means so I say let's try something. I hand her the pad and have her draw something. She then rips out the page and my friend says that's she's a real skeptic and wants to examine everything so I let her. Her first examination finds nothing, but she says that it was hard to write with my pen so she wonders if it left an impression on the page below and I have her look at it. She sees nothing. Then she starts flipping through the pages and sees nothing, but unfortunatley the pad slips from her hands and dangles a bit and the light let's her see something. She says, "Oh, no I pressed so hard I can see it." I'm nowhere near her so I say, "Wow, you got some muscle to you. Well, then tear off any page and hand it to me so I don't see that. " she does and keeps the entire pad. What she doesn't know is I got the glimpse as he tore her first page. I proceed to get her drawing while standing ten feet away. She is amazed and can't figure it out. What's the moral? The IA works, but you have to be someone who can think on your feet if the weird occasion pops up. If you're looking for Tenyo Mentalism look somewhere else. I applaud Shrink for putting out a real worker's tool. By the way, I wasn't even using the pad Shrink supplies. I went out to Target this afternoon and found a pad Tony Blake told me about that is a bit bigger and has a deceptive quality to it. Once again, thanks Shrink. Greg

However, lets chunk up a level. Invisibility is a term I use for looking at mentalism in a new fresh way. Invisibility means moving away from traditional methods that are visible. Or what I believe to be visible: billets, clipboards, dodgy sleights, CT, selections from pre-made lists and so on. The very fact this is getting past people in-the-know is evidence that my thinking is contributing in this area That's the way to go Great stuff Racing up to that 1500 posta and all quality ones Cheers Tj |

Geez, this is unbelievable.
You nail Bill Goldman, you nail people in real world situations over a period of time, you have many contributors endorsing the item after playing with it in *REAL-LIFE*--and you still have people bitching and worrying....but only because they havent performed it!!! . I think if you can't carry this thing off, forget it. Stick with self-working. One more point-- If someone can't be bothered reading the thread of a discussion.... what is the diff. between this and the IMP pad.... forget it. It's not a self worker. It's not for you. The level of spoon-feeding that is going on here is unbelievable. No-one has a right to expect to receive all the info about mentalism or magic, let alone a working piece from a performer. You PAY YOUR DUES! Do your homework, at least read a bloody thread. If you are worried about performing it because you have bugger-all-real-world experience, forget it. This item is too cheap and too easily available. My 2 cents. Tom Berger |

Well, here goes, I'll stick my head over the parapet.
I got the package while at work, and couldn't try it out for a few hours. Reading the manuscript, I was very excited to give it a go. When I got the chance, I set up one of the pads and tried writing. As soon as I took the page off, the i********n was staring me in the face - REALLY, REALLY obviously. It was very disheartening - no way could it have been used like that. But here's the point. There are some suggestions in the manuscript for how to affect the visibility, and more have come through in the Users Forum. There are alternative handlings for those with less nerve, which make it even less likely to be discovered. I'm now playing around with these variations, and it's working well for me in rehearsal. I still have lots of work to do on the routining and scripting, but as a working method, I've got to the point where I'd happily use it for spectators. I'm the first to admit that I'm relatively inexperienced in mentalism compared to these other guys. But this product CAN be great for anyone, if they're prepared to put in the work. Great work, Shrink: £500 each should be about right.....

Just a thought guys, and I have noticed this problem elsewhere in the Café when discussing secret methods, but writing things like i********n and m****d is NOT any way to discuss the method secretly, if you get my meaning. It doesn't take much to figure out what those words are, then put two and two together, and 'discover' the methodolgy. (Un)fortunately this became true for me while reading posts on another dealer item product where the person had typed m****d (marked), and I figured it out.
Also, too many questions about a product are also obvious ways in which said questioner may be trying to 'reverse engineer' that product. You obviously have something great here Shrink, and it would be a shame that the method is inadvertantly given in this forum. |
