There are some large versions of cube/block through wand effects (for example this one), but I decided to see if I could make a miniature version of it, and hopefully bring some improvements as well. It proved harder than I first thought, and the result isn't perfect (it can jam from time to time), but I'm very pleased with the appearance of my creation. Pictures:
Base, block and wand: Wand placed onto base (note the big hole in the bottom of the base): Base closed over wand, block on top, ready for penetration: Block has penetrated the wand: Base opened to show the unharmed wand now goes through the hole in the block: I've also made a video showing this (patter isn't impressive, but it was the best I could come up with at the moment): I know I said both 'cube' and 'block' in the video, but I was too lazy to reshoot the video to fix it. I had already done many takes, so I decided to accept my own inconsistency... |

Hello mroek, wow, that looks very cool. Did you do this with a 3D printer? I also really like the design. Simple, clean and nothing that distracts. I would buy it immediately

Thanks, Alex McFly! Yes, this is all 3D printed.

May I ask which 3D printer you work with? I've already looked around, but the amount of printers is unmanageable.

I'm using two printers, one is a Craftbot 2, the other is a cheap Chinese printer (Wanhao Duplicator i3). Both can produce excellent results, the thing is that to be able to use 3D printers, you need to spend time learning how to get good results. And when designing, it is important to keep in mind the manufacturing process as well (in this case 3D printing). I'm always designing my stuff in ways that they should print nicely. Different requirements for other manufacturing processes.
So in short, the operator matters more to the result than the printer itself (but that's not to say that there aren't any crappy printers). |

Thank you very much for your explanation. Yes, I believe that the operator is more important than the printer itself. As mentioned above: This cube is very well made and it makes you want a 3D printer

Have you made further prototypes?

No, I haven't. No need to.
