I'm looking to purchase a new "cheap" camera and would be curious to know if anybody had any recommendations. So far, I'm leaning towards the Panasonic Lumix G7 ($600 with everything included) for the following reasons:
- cheap (the likelihood of it being stolen is high for the reasons I'll be using it so cheaper is better. $1k or less is preferred. $800 or below & I'm happy) - 4K video capabilities - lightweight (if it's not small, I'd prefer something light...easier to travel with) - external mic capabilities My primary concern with the Panasonic Lumix G7 is the crappy autofocus (sorry, just calling it how I see it). Any photographers have any input? Other recommendations? |

I would recommend going online. There are many sources for professional reviews in different price ranges, that are extremely detailed. It sounds like you’re looking for a camera where you can change out the lenses. What are you looking to use the camera for?

Compared different specs, watched hours of professional video reviews, etc. I just thought I'd ask here to see if anybody had any personal recommendations. Because all roads I've crossed seem to lead back to the camera I mentioned (with a few exceptions). Changing lenses isn't a big deal. I'll be using it for various uses. The criteria I mentioned above is the only things I care about. Thanks! |

Photographers will upgrade and change camera bodies over the years, but use the same lens indefinately. Which is why photographers don't usually change brands. I shoot Canon, my brother shoots Nikon. Both are good cameras, but we stick to our respected brands simply because of the lenses we have and use. If your photography needs require more than a pic from a cell phone, then I'd suggest taking a long term view when selecting the camera brand.
