It sounds too magicial. Reviews?
http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/11062 This trick is groundbreaking. It allows you to make any card appear at any number (ACAAN), with a borrowed deck... the groundbreaking part? You never touch the cards!! They shuffle the cards. They deal the cards. The deck doesn't even have to be complete. It breaks all the rules. Alan Rorrison is one clever devil. He's earned his reputation by inventing many powerful magic tricks seen on TV by top performers like Dynamo, Troy, Dan White and many more. But today Alan has published something that may be his most powerful trick yet. An any-card-at-any-number where you never touch the deck. Most magicians would have called this idea impossible, but that's where Alan's cleverness shines.. he breaks imaginary rules magicians have taken for granted. Here's what happens in ADCAAN: 1. THEY shuffle a deck of cards to their heart's content. 2. THEY randomly select both a card and a number. 3. THEY deal down to the number they selected. 4. THEY reveal it's the card they randomly chose! It's that clean and direct. ADCAAN comes with everything you need except a deck of cards. Use any deck you have, or even borrow one. It can even be incomplete, the trick will STILL work every time! |

(You could use any, but it’s nice to include everything you need!) So even if someone hands you a horrid, old, incomplete deck from behind the bar you can go right into the trick. I also redesigned the gimmick so that it looks a little more natural, and it has a little extra something too, it can act as a memory aid for Mnemonica. (Ring in a stacked deck after the ACAAN and leave the gimmick on the table or under the cellophane on the box, just an added option if you fancy building some other effects in afterwards when you’re working. The fact they shuffle at the start makes any stack work afterwards even more impossible!) I’m a fan of this method anyway, it takes all the work out of ACAAN, makes it feel completely random and off the cuff and it was a lot of fun to see Alan tearing up the place with it!

I already have a 52-1 gimmick in my wallet. This could be an interesting replacement!
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death my right to say "scr*w you" if you persist. [Voltaire ]

Does anyone knows if this can be easily reset and use in a walk around environment? it seems capable of that from the trailer.

This does look great, though I know the earlier ADACAN version, which is good, so resisting the temptation to find out what improvements have been made here (for now...). I do like that the video does show some of the selection process, which I think is useful for people who might purchase this to know about (the ad copy doesn't really mention it, and yet... it's important). The ad copy is also... very slightly misleading. It *does* describe what the spectator thinks happens, but it's not *exactly* what actually happens. Still, super clever, and very, very fooling for many, many people (not necessarily magicians, who will likely catch on to at least part of what's happening, if not the entire thing).

This reminds me of "Autobahn" ACAAN routine by David Forrest.
The same method is used if I see it correctly. Generally, the method (one of them) is very old. For me, this is not an ACAAN, because something is forced. Darko |

Would it possible to describe the *exact* procedure, or would that be giving too much away?

To be honest, most of the procedure *is* shown in the video -- specifically around the selection. They can shuffle the cards. You never need to touch the deck at all. They can confirm that the deck is as shuffled and mixed up as they want. Then they select the number and the card as shown (in two separate parts) of the video. You explain to them how the selection works and it works just as they show in the video: you have a card with the numbers 1 to 52 on one side, and all of the cards on the other side, and then you flip the card over and the spec blindly stabs at it with a sharpie to pick both the card and the number. That's the procedure -- as shown in the video -- for picking the card and the number. Then they deal down to their selected number, and voila, it is their selected card. That's the procedure. The sneaky stuff is so subtle and so baked into the routine that no one will notice that anything else happens. Obviously can't/won't reveal where/how the dirty work happens, but it's not very dirty at all. There is a tiny bit of this that might take some practice, but not in a difficult way, and for many it won't take any practice at all. |

Would be nice if we could just see a proper performance of the routine instead of these rapid cut shots of different parts of the routine. How can I make an informed decision as to whether this suits my presentation style. From the quick glimpses in the demo video, the spectator appears not to just name a card or a number but has to stab some form of card. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to know how a trick is done or the secret before I buy, I'd just like to see a pure and simple performance! Maybe someone will perform a youtube video?

That is how the selection process is, just like you said.

It's that clean and direct. With all due respect, I could imagine many more direct forms of freely selecting a card than a procedural sharpie stab-in-the dark.

Whilst you can't shuffle the cards in *my* ACAAN, anyone can do it (because the deck does the work - it's gimmicked), and they really just name a card and really just name a number with only a one-card restriction on the card itself and a small restriction on the number (3-52). They deal face up and there's no switches or anything. This isn't intended to be down on Alan's ADCAAN at all, just a heads-up to a different approach for those that may want a more traditional ACAAN. |

This one (like many effects where you have this issue) has, at least, a pretty decent explanation in the patter for using this particular method. It might not be a magician fooler (though, because there are a few concepts subtly layered together here, I'd bet it still fools many of them). Even if a spec finds the selection slightly off, they still won't be able to backtrack as to how the effect worked, because, the magician still never needs to touch the deck. I will admit, for what it's worth, when I first got ADACAN, my initial response was that I was disappointed with the method, but then I started actually playing around with it, and it works wonderfully. |
