What do you guys think about this idea that I will present bellow. I think it will work in a larger production if you are backed by a band.
1. Ask spectator to think about card and get the card into the right position. 2. Play a version of The Rolling Stones song "Pain It Black" but change Black to Blank in the lyrics. (You make sure that the audience understands that you are spiritually commanding the deck to obey you) In other words, to paint a card blank. 3. Produce the blank card and change it into their card. It turns a simple card trick into more of a larger mystical voodoo routine which I think can play really big if you have the resources. |

I have to admit, I saw through the method after watching the trailer, but I'm really not sure how it will play for laymen.
I'm not sure 20 bucks is a good price for this. I have the gaff already. Several of them. Actually, all I would require is a download. Perhaps it should have been released for a much more economical price as an instant download?

Daffy it will play alright to laymen imo , but it’s just a copy of Andrew Normansells brilliant Club Sandwich but a lot weaker
It definitely doesn’t warrant a release no matter how much I love John Bannons work . |

You know, years ago, I purchased, learned and used "Club Sandwich," and it was a favorite effect.
Then the years went by, my wife died, I moved, and I LOST the instructions, and the effect faded from my memory and repertoire, but I think about it all the time. And I sure MISS that effect. Wish I had it back and could add it back in my repertoire. I always thought it was really cool.

Another miracle that can only occur when the cards are placed on the top of the deck and flipped over, because it looks so natural...
All that aside, Bannon is brilliant, I am jyonot into this one. |

I performed it for a few laymen with which I practice my new effects so they are already sensitized to some of the magical methods I use and they were fried by the directness and simplicity (in its good meaning) of the effect. They thought that it was pure and direct and were genuinely baffled.
Yes, the method is not entirely new and is heavily influenced by existing effects like club sandwich but I prefer this presentation because there is a fair choice involved and it feels like a mix of mentalism and card magic, it is very direct to the point, uses a normal deck and has no reset time. I didn't like the mechanics of the final reveal much but I came up with my own move which uses a Rumba count for one card and a half turnover for another one which I think is an improvement because it feels less discrepant. If people are interested, I could further explain it. I would say that Mr. Bannon put here a nice effect. When we stop thinking as magicians, we can sometimes (re-)discover than in the foundations lay quite good effects. |

I feel basically the same way about this... It's a simple thing, with a nice little mental aspect to it. I like the simplicity of it.
Nothing much needs to be said beyond what Gaijin just posted above here, or at least he hit it all pretty right-on for me as to my thoughts on it, except that I don't think the little discrepancy is anything much at all. Just a little confidence and it flies right by them as shown. As long as you don't try to go on "Fool Us" or something with it, you should be just fine out there everywhere else, especially with laymen. Who IMHO are the best audience anyway. Good trick, a refreshingly nice update on the sandwich trick, easy to do, simply done, and plays amazing. Me likey! *Oh, and Gaijin, I'd like to hear your thoughts on your reveal, sounds interesting as an alternative.

I think I need to say again that if you like the look of it buy his book 'Mentalissimo' you will get this plus a lot more.
Some of you will have the gaff card already lying around. [He mentions 'Club Sandwich' in the book]

@Mb217 and those who are interested (surprisingly few people so far)
Here is a video of the mechanics for the reveal in an almost slow motion. It should be self explanatory what is happening here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0k-fjooeMY&feature=youtu.be |

I'm an unashamed Bannon fanboy, but do still try to be objective when I review his items And I liked this a lot. Yes - it has some similarities to some earlier routines (notably Club Sandwich - which as has been mentioned is credited) - but I think perhaps some of you are forgetting how a layperson thinks. This effect works because of the construction of the routine and the journey you take the spectator on. It is 'illogical' (discrepant) if you think about it - but we're not in the business of real magic Also, there's a second reveal taught on the instructions which I personally prefer - though Bannon apparently prefers the one on the demo. I think it is a decent release. You can see my full review here: https://www.bicycle-cards.co.uk/2018/11/......-review/

In the demo video for this effect did John Bannon seem a little different to anyone else?
His speech and delivery seemed a bit different than usual but it’s probably my imagination. But curious if any others felt that way? |

I did too - and in the explanation. "Slower" than usual. Maybe jet-lagged?!!

In the performance it looks like he gives the woman the gaff card.
