Any tips for smoothly pitching bottoms?

It's probably not something I'll use in performance, but for academic reasons I'd like to at least be able to do it passably.

When pitching tops I am holding the card between the first finger and thumb and using the second finger to pitch.

However, I've been in the habit of using the second finger and thumb for the take on the bottom (and for the top when dealing but not pitching). I certainly can take the bottom with the first finger, but it doesn't provide as much cover.

Should I learn to pitch with the third finger for the bottoms? For the tops as well for consistency?

Curious to hear how others are approaching this.

Cheers,
Matt

Ill tell you one thing, theres not very many people on this forum that can pitch cards properly let alone pitch bottoms.... My suggestion is to to make your bottom pitch look the same as your top regardless of that finger or grip you use....

Yes, you should pitch with your third finger if you are going to take with your second. And yes, stay consistent and do this regardless of whether you're taking the top or bottom card.

If you consider consistency then yes. Regarding pitching, I prefer first finger as I can sail cards faster, even it does not provide much cover when hitting bottoms.

I pitch with the third finger for top deals as well as bottom deals.

Thanks all. I'll have to practice pitching with the 3rd finger I guess.

Heck even I know the answer to this one.

Take with forefinger, flick with middle finger.

Take with middle finger, flick with ring finger.

Take with ring finger, flick with...oh, you get the idea. Smile
