Hi All, Does anybody know the name/source of the silk blendo that appears in the 2:34 mark of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uwb9vdtPmhE video.
Thanks, George |

To be honest, it looks like a normal gimmicked blendo.
Rice's Encyclopedia of Silk Magic, Vol. 3, starting at page 1162. I bought one from a magic shop years ago, that works like the one on page 1168, and ends with a 36" tie dye silk. - Donald P.S. Here's an old thread that discusses Gimmicked vs. Ungimmicked Blendos. Sometimes the phrase Prepared vs. Unprepared is used. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=54 Most of the Blendo sets being sold online seem to be ungimmicked blendos (so, a silk set, and you use additional apparatus).

One more thought, that I'd like to add (but the time to edit my post had passed).
A couple of sites where I've seen a gimmicked blendo are Rice's Magic and Abbott's Magic. This is the type of Blendo that is $200 and up. I think Richard Hughes can also make them, but he only has the ungimmicked (unprepared) blendos listed on his website. Some of the blendos sold by Wonder Imagery work on the Bumper Bag principle (Rice's Encyclopedia of Silk Magic Vol. 4, page 1688), but that's a different method than the gimmicked blendo performed in the video that was in the first post. - Donald

The name of the effect would be, "The End Blendo". Blendo is the name of the effect, I guess to be more on the point, Silk Blendo or Clown Blendo would help to be more descriptive.
As in any business, there are certain words used, that is called, "jargon' the Magic industry is no different. If you are asking where you can obtain a blendo similar to the one in video, well, to my knowledge no one is making them currently in the old method. That young man in the video could have had his made himself by a relative or seamstress. That silk is very thin and hard to work with. Here is Rice's Silk King Studio website, so you can get the idea. http://www.silkkingmagic.com/Rice's%20D......ects.htm Abbott's Magic makes 2 different types of Blendos. The traditional mechanical method: https://www.abbottmagic.com/Abbotts-Blen......oryId=-1 The different method, I have never seen the method of working: https://www.abbottmagic.com/Abbotts-Blen......oryId=-1 |

Donald: I looked in Rice's on those pages and none of these bendo's appear to be this blendo.
Bill: I spoke to Robert and he's not familiar with where he learned it ( he made his), but since I posted it, he showed me its workings; however I'm still looking to hunt down the origin whether it be on DVD ( which he learned it) or print. |

What you are seeing is NOT a "just a normal 'The End Silk'", as you were guessing above.
It looks like someone took a couple of these picture silks (the one Mike linked to), and made them into a gimmicked blendo. Any picture silks could be made into a gimmicked blendo, if you know the method. This is why I referenced the Rice's Encyclopedia of Silk Magic. I own a gimmicked blendo, and it works exactly as the one performed in the video. Mine just has a different silk as the finale. One feature of the gimmicked blendo is that you can show the finale silk on both sides afterwards, like he did in the video. And the change is very visual / instant. Now whether a magic dealer sold that gimmicked blendo with a "The End" silk finale at one time, or if it's homemade, I don't know. - Donald

P.S. Yes, I'm telling you to read a book, to find the answers (learn about what you are seeing). Not just click some links to websites.
But if you want to BUY a gimmicked blendo, with a different finale silk, then click the links that Bill provided, or search some of the websites I mentioned.

Hi Donald and Bill, I own Rice's Encyclopedia of Silk Magic and read pages 1162-1215 in volume 3 and none of those methods are what Robert showed me. I also could not find this silk blendo on eBay as you mentioned Bill.I'm not sure you think that I think it's just a normal The end silk Donald, but I know that this is two silks sewn together; I was hoping to buy this pre-made, but Abbott's blendo and the other's on the market do not work using this method. That's why I'm looking for the instructions to make one ( which once again are not in Rice's), as Robert showed it to me quickly and I want to have detailed instructions for when I do it or my seamstress. I already have the two multi color 36" silks and the three 18" silks. However, in this handling, there is no metal ring or fish tank tubing. My post here was I hope that someone was aware of the method, but that does not seem to be the case.- George

There was a post by you earlier on the thread where you said it was "just a normal 'The End Silk'". I was quoting that (even though I didn't use the quote function). That post has since been removed (this thread has been edited, and several posts were removed). This is why I made the comment about you saying it was a normal silk.
I don't know the performer from the video, and I haven't spoken with him, so obviously he has given you information that we aren't aware of. Another post that was removed was the one where Bill mentioned to you about how a metal ring and fish tank tubing are involved in the construction of a gimmicked blendo. - Donald

I don't know if Gallo Magic is still around at all, but I will give my opinion. This looks like the same person you referenced before, only a little older and still doing the very same Blendo effect, you referenced in your previous question.
I don't know why Gallo refuses believe us, or listen, but that is his choice. He seems to believe there is DVD explaining detailed sewing instructions. I hope he finds it. Remember we finally found the source on Penguin Magic. From a later comment, it looks like you did not purchase the Blendo effect we looked so hard for, trying to decipher your descriptions. Now you come up the the very same Blendo effect you inquired about previously. Yes, it is the one from Penguin Magic. The young man simply made a new one with a different finale silk. Yes, while you been wondering what he has been using, he has been performing so many shows, that he wore out his equipment. Here is a heads up, the magic from India is not re-supplied. Once the stock is gone, they do not supply any restock. So if you do not purchase the Blendo we found previously, you will never know how it works, or be able to make one up in style you like. The only people that would make a DVD for a Blendo would be Laflin magic. I checked and they have a DVD describing how to make a Blendo. So you can look at David and Teesha dot com. |

I still make traditional blend, Bongo (bag) style blendos and unprepared blendos.
There were a lot of people making Blendos years ago. Magic Hands, P&A Silks, Rice, Abbott's and several oriental productions. They show up on eBay from time to time. Rice still has some blendos I believe. A great effect if you present it properly and learn how do it. I made a 4 x 6 American flag blendo for a customer a couple of years ago.

I was surfing, and "found" this thread, so I'll add a few thoughts....
In the late '40s, I bought an Abbott Blendo, IIRC the three 18" silk's corners were tied together so that they would be drawn inside the 36" rainbow. I didn't like that. (slow and awkward) John Booth had a simpler method. The 18" silks were simply "balled up" and the 36" which had been folded according to the instructions in "MARVELS OF MYSTERY", "appeared". I used it, successfully for many years. (cf. page 1195 in Rice Encyclopedia) Methods are not important! The effect is what "counts"!

I second Dick Oslund's approach. I use the same method from Booth's book and it is fast, effective, and never 'jams'.
It's been my method of choice for about 30 years! Regards, to all and Dick Oslund... in particular! PS. If you want the traditional method, you couldn't do better than Richard Hughes' creations. Everything he makes is top notch!

FYI. David Ginn has video tutorials on the John Booth Blendo and the corresponding handkerchief roll on his website. He also has videos on the Neil Foster version and Ginn's own Cheat blendo. I use the Cheat blendo in one of my routines.

I Just found this Blendo like the one in the listed video, it is a Blendo effect from India.
It is sold here and a little different construction then the classic original versions. From the video, it seems to make it a faster change from silks to large blendo silk. See it here, and a good price, in my opinion. https://magicgoods.com/products/blendo-sun-burst |
