I am pretty new to cards. I've had etmcm vhs and Docs bar magic (wich is a favorite) stuff I was thinking about buying Very best of Martin Nashs (2disc)dvd set. Pretty much for Jacks or Better. I would love to see the rest of the material on the disc as well! My question is Can someone tell me the difficuly level? Is it a ball buster? Im still going to buy it but was curious as too the level of card guy you might need to be. Ive got a darn good double and a really good Elmsley for whatever that is worth. Any info is appreciated. Thanks. db

Hi dollar Bill,
Not easy material ! You need solid foundations to tackle Nash’s tricks. Lot of work needed. |

The Martin Nash material is in my view intermediate to advanced, but probably more advanced on the whole. If you are new to cards I would not start here. I have quite a few of Nash's videos and it's all table work. Long scripts with a frequent gambling focus and not a whole lot of audience interaction. A lot of watching as he shuffles and talks. He is a master technician no doubt. But if you are just beginning your card magic journey and want real world workable material you have started in a good place in terms of Michael Ammar's Easy to Master Card Miracles series. Bill Malone's On the Loose DVD series is brilliant and shows how entertaining card tricks can be when executed by a master performer. Most of the tricks are intermediate level regarding technical difficulty. But to do them with the technical fluency of Malone will require years of practice. To be as entertaining as Malone is something many of us desire but will probably never accomplish. Important thing though is to develop your own style.

I was lucky enough about 15 years ago to find Jacks or Better and Ovation lecture notes at a used book store. I learned both of them.
On a scale from 0 to 100, where 100 includes a good bottom deal, pass, or riffle stack, the Nash material in Jacks or Better is around a 70. A pretty good double and Elmsley would be around a 30. Personally, I am really glad to have had exposure to that more difficult material early in my amateur career. Here is a 29-minute live performance of mine: https://youtu.be/lq2Rj1uf05M I used to be quite sensitive to criticism; I am much less so now; so, please do criticize my technique, presentation, and posts. It helps me to grow, and I promise to take responsibility and not to be defensive. |

Thank you guys for the feedback. I actually bought Harry Loraynes new book about a month ago. I havent had enough time to really sit down and read it thru. I think Shaunluttin had the answer I was hoping for. It sounds like some effects/tricks might be doable quicker than others , but there is hope. 😀. Loves me sum Bill Malone too! Thanks again! db

The Giobbi thread became about Lorayne, the Cohen thread became about Lorayne and now the Nash thread? Is there any way to have a discussion on this site without it being brought back to Harry?
