I think I found a video performance of it. Looks pretty great. I presume you don't want a video posted quite yet. Are there difficulties with angles?

I don't think it's new, he's been doing that vanish for quite awhile, unless you are talking about something different than what he was doing.

^ Ah. So the question is: Is the Niagara Vanish different from "The Perfect Vanish" also by Polli? http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S18241
They look pretty similar to me if not identical. But, most of the hyper-convincing retentions look pretty similar to me, as they should. Coin goes in cleanly, and its gone. Maybe the method is different- possibly the name of the vanish is a clue. |

Hi
These kinds of vanishes abound. Wondered what you guys may think of this. Its old and I did it real slow. If it was done fast it would probably be a great intention of vanish move. http://www.worldmagiccenter.com/SecretStuff/Move235.mp4
Magic Al. Say it fast and it is magical.

I do not think you will find an explanation. It is a collection of things I have been doing for the last 50 years. The clip was the first time I attempted to make something I intended to show as simply a different way to do ROV. I made it slow so I could check all the angles. However, it looked so good and I did not want to spend hours making a good clip. I just posted it. It is strange that this clip was my first shot at making a video of this idea. I suspect I could try many times and not do as good a job.
My goal was to show there are many ways to do ROV. The Niagara Vanish is as good as it gets. Stick with it. I once made a video of all the ROV’s I could think of. I guess it is frustrating to us old timers to see someone come out with something new when a hundred already exist and each was announced with the fanfare of music and flashy video. However, you are making a mistake by wanting to know the MOVE. It is more than a move. It is the result of a study of magic technology. It includes a study of body language, how the mind operates, and more. In that clip, every muscle motion is choreographed as a result of the last 50 years of study of these details. Think of that. Every motion in that clip is aimed at producing the final effect. Even the way the mouse is touched to end the clip. It is not just a move.

As far as I am concerned, Al's idea of the snap back vanish was enough for me, and all of my techniques including ROPS were based on that. The others are nice eye candy, but some use the move as an effect and not just a move. That puts more focus on the action. A much longer discussion can develop from that, but remember it's not just the move, it is what you do with it.

Thank you Mr. Rubinstein. Kinda just for the record, let's call that move SloMO ROV. I would like to give it a name just to refer to it. Here is a main point. I would never use the SloMo ROV in a show for laymen. As Micheal says, it is what you do with it and that requires a much longer discussion. Yep, I just use the ole Snapback when I need something like that.

And I understand that very often some "new sleights" are just some forgotten sleights reappearing under new dresses
