Jonathan Swift’s brilliant satirical proposal regarding the dual problems of poverty and famine still feels fresh and apropos. Here’s a version I performed and produced that was broadcast on the radio yesterday:

I only consume grass fed free-range Irish babies, but that is my own personal preference.
I still recall the day I met Beaker from the Muppets. He said to me "Meep, meep, mee mee mee Meep!", and that has made all the difference.

Yuppie snob. In America, we don't discriminate based on nationality.

Dean Swift conveys his regrets that the US did not exist at the time of the composition of his essay.

Thank you landmark. That was an entertaining reading.
Swift's satire still stings when read today. https://www.gutenberg.org/files/1080/1080-h/1080-h.htm Perhaps more so when unfamiliar terms are updated, mutatis mutandis, so the reader does not need to translate shilling to "thousand dollars" etc. Quote: Well maybe something to ponder on that one, thank you overnight delivery, folks in California can enjoy fresh roasted ginger.
For this kind of commodity will not bear exportation, and flesh being of too tender a consistence, to admit a long continuance in salt, although perhaps I could name a country, which would be glad to eat up our whole nation without it. Imagine that written in 1929 by Tom Swift's father. Or today including immigration policy and se*-workers. Gulliver travels again?

Thanks, Jon. It's a remarkable essay, both in general conception and the sharp particulars.
We only had ten minutes, so we cut a substantial amount, but we made the decision not to update any of the language. Everything you hear is Swift from 1729.

Didn’t like it. Had to shut it off after a few minutes. Vocal delivery was over the top.

Couldn’t listen to it all, some thoughts are not worth thinking.

It was only 9 minutes long, so it wasn't hard to finish.
It is a reminder of how bad the world use to be and how wonderful life is now under President Trump. Thanks for sharing

I’ve read the essay. Not my cup of tea but I do appreciate the Protestant slant. A good ol dig at the Catholics.

Hmm... if you think it was an attack on Catholics, you're misreading the essay.

I don't recall anything about attacks on cat addicts...

Hmmm, I can't help but wonder if this would have been performed with as much enjoyment by Jack if the "Modest Proposal", instead of serving the children up in a nice filet had instead suggested to institute a method of solving the problem by first sticking a sharp object into the childs head while in the womb and then snipping it's spinal cord with a sharp pair of scissors before tearing it apart to pull it from the mother. Apparently, a much more acceptable "modest proposal".
