Gecko Pro System - Jim Rosenbaum
$66.00 https://www.murphysmagic.com/product.aspx?id=60036 The Hype: Take your Vanishes to the next level! The Gecko Pro System (GPS) combines the ORIGINAL GECKO SYSTEM with the GECKO EXTREME SYSTEM! GPS allows you to safely vanish, switch or transform almost ANY borrowed item VISUALLY AND SILENTLY!! It is an easy-to-use, light-weight and unobtrusive magic device that you will carry with you at all times. A quick and easy hook up and, once customized (which only takes moments), you can comfortably carry it with you and use it wherever and whenever you desire. You can even perform amazing vanishes in short sleeves! With an almost instant reset, GPS is perfect for walk around, close-up, parlor, and street magic. It is so easy to use that it is appropriate for all skill levels from beginner to expert, and is a must-have item for every performer. Countless hours of research and development have gone into the GPS to ensure you receive a high-quality, professional apparatus. GPS provides you with thousands of possibilities, such as: Vanishes! Bending! T&R (Torn and Restored)! Transformations! Switching! Use as a hold-out device too! Instant reset! Perform within minutes of opening! My Take: You get both the original Gecko plus the Gecko Extreme. The Gecko Extreme adds some great functionality to the original. It will allow for some great, very smooth transitions with coins, bills, cards, etc. Instruction is via a downloaded 56 minute video that goes into great deal about the usage, the hookup, all the nuts and bolts of the device. You get some extras in the package that you might not use, but it is good to have them, just in case. One is an armband. The hookup requires belt loops. Not all pants have belt loops (such as a tuxedo). The armband gives you an alternative way to hook up. You are also given a "holster". This will allow you to do your regular show and ring in the Gecko when needed. Both items show the care that has been put into the design of this package. The Basic Vanish is taught first. This will allow you to do absolute miracles with a minimum of effort. Coin vanishes that eclipse the retention vanish. Switch a copper coin to a silver? So long as you own a shell, it's a piece of cake. A color changing dice routine is taught that is really a beautiful piece of work. The actual mechanics are simple to understand and learn. Bill switch? No problem. And everyone's favorite. The coin bend. I have seen what an impact a good coin bend can make. The Gecko makes it a breeze. And lastly, a real eye opener especially at a bar. You show a bottle cap crushed, You wave your hand over it and it is restored to pristine condition. There is one element to the gimmick that needs replacing maybe once in 20 performances. You are given a large supply of that "special something" that makes it all possible. If you ever do run out, I think a visit to your local Staples would fix you right up. The video says you must wear a jacket. The ad says it can be done in short sleeves but this is not addressed and I fail to see how it would be possible. The preferred jacket is a hoodie, but I think any light jacket would do. If you perform in a suit, some tips are given to prevent damage being done to your jacket. One thing that might be a concern is where you live. I live in Florida so normally wearing a jacket is not practical (unless you just enjoy sweating.) Still, if you perform evening shows, a jacket might be a possibility. Also, a lot of younger magicians prefer to perform in T-shirt such as street performers. The Gecko would probably not a be the right choice for them. But with the strength of this illusion, it just might be worth amending your dress choice. Instant reset is also mentioned. While it can be reset rapidly, I think instant would be stretching it just a bit. The gimmick is well made and definitely adds a lot of utility. I don't think I am talking out of class to call this just what it is, a pull. But it adds a lot to the basic idea. You are told that larger items can be vanished (such as a deck of cards) but I think that the weight would make this a little impractical. That type of vanish should probably be reserved for a topit. You are also told that it will take a lot of practice. The basic working should be mastered in a fairly short time. You should however be aware of your angles (and this is addressed nicely in the instructional video). A method is also given that makes Gecko easier to hold and use. It only needs to be done once and will not take long to accomplish. In watching the video, the gimmick is invisible. Items vanish and change right before your spectator's eyes. The smoothness and the quickness is simply stunning. The Gecko is a very well thought out utility item and the Gecko Pro which is included does away with some of the simple sleights you would use on the basic setup. The addition to the Pro model really facilitates some changes. Nice work. Conclusion: For me, this is a real winner. I have never used a pull but will be changing my thoughts on that. (I might even buy myself a hoodie!) The craftsmanship in the construction is very well done. For the one thing that might break, you are given the material for repair. Construction and handling are both well thought out. The instructional video is very nicely done. It shows you every thing you might want to know plus it addresses any weak spot in the handling.Watch the demo video and see if it fools you. I bet it will. So buy the Gecko fool your audiences. Highly recommended. |
