My name is Ed Cardinal, and I'm an amateur magician. My day job is manager of software quality at a large biotech firm in San Jose, California.

Like most of you, my love of magic started back in elementary school. I loved my first Adams set, especially the coin slide, and ball and vase. I guess I've always been a gimmick fan! I read all the books in the library.

After that, my passion for performing magic cooled a bit (though not my love of watching it) until college. I was lucky enough to have a housemate who was a teen pro (he had performed at the Magic Castle among other venues), and he tutored me in some simple slights. He lent me his copy of Bobo's, and I learned some basic coin moves.

After college, I started getting more into learing the skills and performing for friends. I would like to perform more, but I have a lot of fears (mostly of screwing up tricks, flashing the method and looking stupid).

I have also been a balloon twister for years, mostly for fundraising events.

My favorite magic:

Cards -- Dr. Strangetrick. I do some basic force-and-reveals but I just got Ammar's ETMCM 2 and I'm learning tons, it's awesome. I think I prefer the basic card Warp to Dr. S because of the pure simplicity. I'm currently practicing Vernon's "Twisting the Aces".

Coins -- Hopping Half, Okito coin-through-hand, Raven vanishes (I just got a steel core English Penny, the coin itself is great misdirection since they are not common here).

Other -- Wonderbar (but I'd like to do some other IT stuff), cut-and-restored rope.

Well, I have to go for now, but I look forward to seeing you all around the Cafe!

-- Ed

Welcome aboard, Ed.
Hmmm, you started with the ball and vase, your passion cooled during college years, you went to Bobo, and you are also a balloon twister.
Are you SURE you're not me? Smile

Smile Hi ecardinal!

Welcome to the Magic Cafe!
