Looks like some dice I purchased from Stevens a few years ago. The dice were red and blue dots and smaller version of this. The method is the same here I am sure.Yes, after reviewing this thread it is the same as mentioned earlier "gamblers dice" now found on ebay. However, this one looks like a regular Die.

So is this a black and white die or simply the same thing stevens used to sell?? Can anyone verify colors? |

They are Black and White but they are just showing an old demo here I have been reliably informed. Olly

To answer the above questions.
I purchased mine from Hocus Pocus yesterday. It looks like a standard Die as far as size goes. White Die, all black spots all the same size. It works well, can examined and nothing will be found. You can change the force number quickly and right in view. I have been playing with this all last night and it hasn’t failed yet. I have already worked out an even more natural way to set the force number with out using the extra special something. Literally set the die on your pad for a couple seconds and your force number is set. Those who have I’m sure could work out what I’m talking about. No need for the special something when you have all you need when set up on the table. I like this and I’m sure will find it very usefull. |

It is a rather small thingy inside the dice, so the second one does need to be fairly strong. However, it doesn't fail and the spectator most definitely can roll.

Kyle - it sounds like you picked up the latest incarnation of Winner’s Dice yesterday. Can you confirm the orientation of the 2 spot (horizontal or diagonal)?
Best, Drew

Did he switch the dice (2/5 for 3/4) and "only after the switch" can he roll the number "3".
Is that really the case that there is a dice switch? See the video at 0:36. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nsBNWZCpr0 Darko |

I do agree strongly with what you say - and did allude to the fact that all methods have opportunity to fail (especially when you add a human performer into the mix) in my original question. However, my question about how reliable the dice is (1 in 10 fails vs 1 in 100 or 1 in 1000) was more related to the kinds of routine that I would personally feel comfortable using it in. My feeling is the reliability of the prop does impact on which situations a performer might feel comfortable to use it. For instance, the example you give above makes a lot of sense, however I was also thinking about using this in a routine where the spectator rolls the dice and views the number without the performer seeing it. The spectator would use it to make a "random" selection that forms part part of a multi-part prediction. In this sort of routine, it's less clear to me what the "multiple outs" (or get-outs) would be if the dice happens to fail. Whether I'd use it in this sort of routine depends much more on its reliability than the situation you outline. That being said, there are plenty of great uses (like the one you outline) for the prop that I'm very comfortable with using... Overall, everything I'm reading makes me think this is pretty reliable, anyway - and I can manage the unlikely occasions where something goes wrong. I'll write a review when I get it to add my experience to the mix...but it definitely sounds promising. Thanks for all those who discussed their experience with its reliability, too. I don't have experience with m******c dice, so really wasn't sure. Those comments, as well as the useful comments about multiple outs, audience management and methods to avoid the spectator watching the roll (which looks a little suspect to me in the video), were all helpful. |
