I looked at my magic cabinet and saw that there was a lot of magic tricks, books and dvds that cost me a lot of money but I never used them much, which made me think about things that I spent a lot of money on, but I was more satisfied then I expected. so I would be glad to know what was your things that you bought and was more satisfied then you imagined.
my top 5 are: 1. train tracking by atlas brookings-pure gold. cost me a lot and worth every penny. 2.divine by colin mcloued- great ideas 3. digital force bag by nick einhorn-such easy and strong 4.md cube by craig 5. I hope that my new t-watch.. |

Lecture notes from Ian Rowland. In particular, the items Mind Wave, Rowland P**k, and Home Astral Projection.
Pentalogy by R Shane. A treasure trove of ideas and inspiration. Not much mentalism, but loads of ideas. Switchcraft by Bressler. I wish I had a practical way to bind it with an index, but this is a vital reference on more than just the bits of paper. Palm reading materials from Voodini and Julian Moore. Versatile and both show how to put a rather complicated system into a straightforward presentation. It is interesting to me that as I think about what I actually use most, the only video is Paul Voodini’s palmistry one. Most of what I use is written material. Books or ebooks. I own and enjoy a great deal more, but right now these are my best values. Patrick |

I absolutely gravitate towards information over props (if I can’t make it myself I’m typically not that interested barring a few exceptions). So here’s my list of all time favorite books and DVDs:
1 - Maximum Entertainment by Ken Weber 2 - Strong Magic by Darwin Ortiz 3 - Pure Effect and Absolute Magic by Derren Brown 4 - Jermay’s Mind and Premise & Premonition by Luke Jermay 5 - The Theater of the Mind Trilogy by Barrie Richardson 6 - Mentalism Incorporated 1 & 2 by Chuck Hickok 7 - A Piece of My Mind by Michael Murray 8 - Minimalistic, Metaphysical, Mentalism by Scott Creasey 9 - Scripting Magic 1 & 2 by Pete McCabe 10 - Bairn by Ken Dyne 11 - The Books of Wonder by Tommy Wonder 12 - The Mind and Magic of David Berglas by Britland & Hahne These are all projects that I revisit REGULARLY. This was all money EXTREMELY well spent (and they’ve all paid for themselves MANY TIMES OVER in the inspiration they’ve contributed to my paid performances). Best, Drew

Like many, I have a huge catalog of books and videos ... and as I think about the material I actually perform, it comes down to these ...
Actually, I started to list them out but the list was getting too long. So I guess I'm getting value out of the material I possess. That's a good thing. Good topic though, I love it when I find something in a book, tape, DVD, video download, or whatever, that I can actually walk away with and perform. I have the Tarbell set, and at first wasn't that impressed because so much of it is the basis for newer magic, and if you're familiar with the newer more contemporary presentations, then just having the genesis may be nice, but doesn't necessarily advance your repertoire. But then I found a neat little rope thing involving a scarf that I'd never seen before - and instantly made it my own with an original presentation and added an extra prop. That gave those volumes value in my eyes, an original effect NO ONE was performing. I've since coaxed a couple more out of that set. So worth the money. However, if pressed, my top 5 (supplying actual performance material) would have to be: ---Tarbell ---Mentalism Incorporated ---Unreal ---Compleat Magick ---& Anything by Marc Paul, Richard Osterlind, Eugene Burger and Max Maven Oscar |

The single most satisfying mentalism related purchase I've ever made was Banacheck's 4 DVD set. Outstanding in every respect. Includes routines for casual performances, close-up, parlor, stage. This was the first set of DVDs on the subject I bought, and (for me) the best.
Second is Switchcraft by Elliott Bresler. A third is Millard Longman's AN multi-media CD. |
