Hiya - I'm a retar....errr, retired/disabled former paint guru and semi-pro multi-instrumentalist who used to do VERY basic, mostly gimmicked magic (much from the old Magic Masters stores) when working trade shows and to kill time in hospitality suites. I just dug my old stuff out (I hadn't touched it in 20 years), bought a few new things to learn - and will mostly be entertaining myself and 3 parrots (plus a rare visitor now and then). I also lost my youngest son (23) a year ago - a few months earlier he had found my box of "toys", was interested, but we never had a chance to get to it..so I'm re-starting in his memory as well.
Everything I work with is closeup and my arthritis mangles most sleights, card fans and such - so what I'm working with at this point (Dec 2018) is mostly gimmicked or VERY simple manipulation. Since in the "old days" I had an endless supply of impromptu patter I'm really shifting gears learning routines where I actually DO something without piling on the buffalo droppings... Some of my old stuff has been long separated from instruction and even gimmick parts, so if any of my questions involve products long gone, pure junk, obsolete parts or not even worth bothering with please just tell me - at 66 my ego left for parts unknown a long time ago, and I only argue about crap I actually know something about. Here I'm essentially a blank slate, so feel free to doodle - I lost the *@$% eraser! |

Welcome Silverface,
Sorry about the loss of your Son. Taking up Magic sounds like a way to work through some of the grief. I have gained several skills and routines while grieving the loss of close Friends and Family members. Every time l do those particular tricks, I think about those I've lost in a very comforting way. If you do a search of arthritis Magic tricks, you may get some helpful directions. Best of fun. - Mary Mowder |

Hello there and welcome Silverface. You've come to the right place, is all I can say. I'm a beginner myself and I'm Learning much more, much quicker since I joined here.
It's sad to read about you losing your son. I can imagine the pain. I lost my Father the same year and I can only compare it -and of course, that is a pain I didn't know. I'm sure you understand. It is a great thing, you want to do something in his honour. I wish you all the very best and hope you find something to help you in your endeavour. Paul

Those who think that magic consists of doing tricks are strangers to magic. Tricks are only the crude residue from which the lifeblood of magic has been drained." - S.H. Sharpe |
