Once you purchase, you may be crafty enough to make your own "extra gimmicks" I am sure materials can be found if you look far and wide enough.

Keep in mind that until there are extra gimmicks available, this is only a 1 in 5 prediction effect. Might be good for an opener or a filler in the middle but not a blockbuster type effect with predicting 1 selection out of 5 choices. They should have provided more gimmicks. Hopefully extra gimmicks will be made available.

I'm fascinated by the A Lousa slate. I haven't worked with spirit slates before but am working on developing a routine based on John Lovick's Little House routine. I just bought a Bazar de Magia set of slates recently but am thinking of exchanging them. Can anyone speak to the pros and cons of A Lousa vs. Bazar slates vs. Dave Powell Exotic Spirit Slates (magnetic)?

I received this last night. The method is very clever, but is more or less what I expected yet with a 'twist'. I feel that it will be relatively easy to make more of the gimmicks as needed. I was thinking that the thin cardboard backs that dry cleaners supply for shirts and sweaters would be perfect (cut to the appropriate size). The "other" item is readily available from office supply stores like Staples. It also occurred to me that you may be able to make a dry erase version by using those M*******c dry erase sheets. The only concern might be the lighting (black is a little more forgiving than white). The dry erase version might only be suitable for stage, but it is worth trying. Of course, you would use a permanent marker disguised as a dry erase to prevent smudging.
Either way, if you like the basic effect you'll like this. Good mentalism openers are hard to come by. This is simple, direct, and very fooling. But like others have mentioned, this will play even better with more choices...Perhaps, a 1 out of 10 proposition would be ideal. |

This is a very good trick, but only worth its money if actual refills are available. They are not for the moment.

Refills will be available soon I'm told, I think $20 rings a bell for the price.

I do a lot of shows where the audience is as close as 10 feet away from me.
Will it work in that situation? And does it work best in bright lighting or low? I need to know this before I purchase this. |

In spite of the effect requiring some homework and arts-n-crafts, this is a nice and practical effect for stage/parlor. Some good, fresh and clever thinking has gone into creating this very effective but simple to perform SLATE effect.
My thoughts please.

A Lousa is amazing. The method resembles Quarte (Gaetan Bloom), but is direct and dinamic. The handling is simple, but it should be practiced, because it is not an automatic effect. Angle is the only weak point for me, because it cannot be surrounded, but it is perfect for parlor and stage. It allows various types of presentation and handling. I really love it.

If you'd prefer to buy the refills, extra gimmicks are now available on the Bazar de Magia website,

Can the refills be added to the effect, essentially doubling the number of options for the spectator to choose from, or is the slate limited to only 5 choices each act no matter how many gimmicks you have on hand??
Thanks. |
