Anyone know the origin of the following? Chosen card is controlled to bottom... Rubber band is wrapped around deck... Card is revealed by holding deck face down and opening hand which causes card to flip face up on back of hand.? I used to do this years ago, but lost the instructions and source info.

The name I've seen it typically go by on the internet is "Card Trap", but I don't know the source info. I like the variation, the "Houdini Card Trick" a bit better as the rubber band tying is a little more direct and foolproof, and the reveal happens outside the hands.

Thanks, Will Lane. I'll check out the variation.

Sounds a little like JC Wagners "Band o Rama" but the card did not go to the back of the hand.

Aldo Colombini had some work along these lines and so does Dan Harlan.

You might do some searches along those lines.

Good luck!

Also check out the James Brown Band up (pot of jam) and a revised version on his 2008 lecture DVD if you can find it.

I also believe there is something similar on the DVD "Rubber Bang" by Sean Yang. Great DVD regardless. Wonderful mix of card/rubber band magic.

There's are a few versions (a complete chapter) in "Charles Jordan's Best Card Tricks" by Karl Fulves.

In Magic Magazine, January issue 2001 in the trick section (Inside out ) there is a trick called Band Slam. It is credited to Bernhard Bilis and others.

At the end there is a fairly comprehensive listing of sources of the effect wich makes for interesting Reading.
