I am putting together a Halloween Show and I'd like to add an Arm Chopper effect - any suggestions regarding type or manufacturer?

How Gross Do You Want to Get?
What's Your Budget? The best (and possibly rarest) bit like this is a mini-Buzz Saw device put out by Thayer years ago... victim's arm is stapped down on a small table and a radial arm saw type device either cuts it in half or you can make two bloody cuts and remove the center section of the arm... NOTE: someone can hold the hand and bicep during all this... the hand is real as is the upper arm... the victim isn't in on it... all the parts held are real and do belong to the victim! Kirkham slayed people with this when he played Dr. Strange @ Knott's Berry Farm years ago... very cool piece! Arm Chopper of the Guilotine variety range from $200.00 to over $2,000.00 depending upon which you order and the builder. Like outhouses, there are single and double holer styles...(one wrist or two) You may wish to check with a noteworthy builder however, in that some of the least costly tend to be more prone to potential dangers. UFGrant used to make one that allowed the hand to fall off into a small basket... cute piece! I don't know who makes them now days but I believe Stevens and Hollywood Magic both stock it.

If you are looking for one at a low cost, Mak Magic makes the Grant one that sells for about $125.00. The arm falls into basket and you can chop with it to show that it "works". It works great and packs small.

RonJo Magic sells a nice looking version of the Grant "French Arm Chopper" .
They call theirs "Hand Off (Improved French Arm Chopper" . http://www.ronjo.com/Merchant2/merchant.......29602039 They don't have a photo of it on their web page at this time, but ask them to e-mail you a digital photo of the unit. It looks more like a "real" guillotine/chopper , not like a circus prop. All natural wood finish. |

Disecto by Abbott folds flat and packs small. There are numerous patter already written for this in several books. David Ginn and in Another excellent book called Chopper Capers (out of print but can be found). There is a lot of funny patter that can go with it.
